Shipping is twice the cost of the product itself. Massdrop have lost their collective minds. This, among other reasons, is why I've practically stopped using Massdrop.

Shipping costs money. It involves real things like trucks, planes, fuel, and people working. You can just do what larger online retailers do and mark items up by the cost of shipping, or you can itemize the costs separately. I think Massdrop is making one mistake here by setting a flat domestic rate vs a bit more complexity and having a checkout time real-time shipping quote with a few different options for us to choose from. But it's complex to figure this stuff out (can you drop ship to an APO? can you use USPS last mile with a PO Box? etc) so I understand why they don't. It's probably a mistake also that their policy differs across drops because then you get complainers griping about $3 shipping on a $5 sale. How are they going to pay their rent? Do the math, it's electronics and retail. They're not pulling +60% margins on this drop. It's totally different than them offering free shipping on a $300 amp (and it's not "free" shipping then, either). Honestly.

Thanks! Just cancelled my order and ordered from AliExpress. Got the gold color with the extra pack. Shipping was a dollar more, but the extra tips were a dollar less and the shipping time is half of what it is here.

Aaaaand as usual an American completely forgetting there's an entire world outside of their country. Typical. Dude, it's a $5 pair of earbuds. You can *NOT* rationalize $10 shipping on this (don't know where you got the $3 from, I even mentioned it's double the drop price). I can go to Aliexpress right now and buy this thing for the same price and a quarter of the shipping price. So yes, the only reason to have such a ridiculous markup on an item is to profit off of it. And you're right, they're not getting 60% margins in this case, it's over 100%, although this is one of the more extreme examples. I'm not blaming MD for trying to make money, I'm blaming them for more and more of these completely dishonest and disingenuous sales. Back when they started out they had actually decent deals on hard-to-get items with alright shipping costs, but in the past ~2 years things have gotten out of hand.
But yes, I'm sure a VC-funded Silicon Valley business is barely scraping by and rely on turning a profit on shipping costs. Honestly.

Bummer about the shipping to wherever you are. Too bad you can not actually get this color from aliexpress. Cool that you have something new to whinge about!
