I'll jump in and agree with the others in that there isn't a better multitool made. I bought a stainless version for ~$90 some years ago. Better fit and finish than any leatherman or Gerber (I still like the old original gerbers). I'm not going to pay a premium for the black finish, but for those that don't own a spiritx, it may be worth looking into.

I have owned one of these for MANY years (with a discontinued beautiful black leather holster) and I remember paying a good bit for it (90$ maybe?) because it was a limited produced item that was made for Victorinox’s road show many years back. It appears they may have brought it back into production, which is great for Victorinox finally do. In my opinion, the Spirit X is the best full-size multitool ever.

SelindhI wasn’t aware the Spirit X went out of production but I don’t follow those things closely. I bought mine (with a nylon Velcro-closure belt pouch, not a snappy leather one) for $80 some years ago. It is my carry piece. I have a Wave in my go bag. With the bit kit and associated carry pouch it is bulkier, and is not as beautifully finished for the same price range as the Spirit. But it is nice to have in a go bag if a bit bulky for edc. It’s as tough as the Swisstool. But it will never be as sexy. Edit: you were referring to the blackout model, weren’t you? Oops.

IluvtoonzI was. Originally, as I remember it, the black finish was a very limited production. Yes, the only drawback of the Spirit is its beauty.. makes it hard to use hard. Thankfully at this point I have no hesitation using and abusing it.
Why so pricey, is it made in the Swiss alps?

CalaverasgrandeI think it’s made in the Chinese Alps but don’t quote me on that

Spirit X -- been wanting this one for a good while, since the bladeshape is better than the "butter knife" shape on the Spirit. Blacked out is cool. Price has escalated over the years....

ChoronzonI noticed the price jump too. I carry a regular stainless Spirit X. It is the highest quality multi tool I’ve ever had. As tough as Leatherman with nicer finishing details. You will eventually wear out any multitool with enough use. I’d planned to eventually replace mine with another Spirit X. So I clicked on this cool blackout version and it’s nearly twice the price I paid for the silver colored Spirit X in my hand now. If if I had to pay that price I’d still say it was worth it. The Swisstool Spirit line is really that good. But wow, it is harder to pay that much.
