If 40 people purchase one of these, the vendor will give a $5 discount on MSRP...... he will then charge $12.75 to ship it to NZ and probably make more profit out of the shipping than selling at MSRP: This should be shipping for the price of a postcard.

AotearoanHi Aotearoan,
I just wanted to clear up a couple of things. As the vendor, we don't set shipping prices, that is determined by Massdrop and is out of our control. But more importantly, you can go to usps.com to calculate the shipping fees to NZ, a package of less than 3oz is $13.25 for First Class International. We charge $3 for domestic US shipping, I can assure you we're not out to make a profit on shipping fees.

VigilantGearYour product weighs 0.7oz. - US First Class Mail International Letter rate starts at $1.15 for 1oz worldwide. A large flat envelope is $2.29 (http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/Notice123.htm#_c341)
Looking at current drops, I can have an Ultor Keyboard which weighs 24oz shipped to NZ by Massdrop for $9.06
Outdoor Research Ditty Sacs, which weigh about the same as your product x3, costs $5.75 for Massdrop to ship to NZ.
Why does Massdrop leave International Shipping to vendors if they can ship the product themselves for so much less? The fact that you say Massdrop set the vendor shipping rates makes it even more bizarre.

AotearoanThe Entry Card, along with all of our products are rigid and inflexible and are packed in a padded envelope or box. This prohibits us from using the letter rate.
I can't speak for any of the other drops, but for ours, Massdrop generates the shipping labels and sends them to us. All we do is print and pack. There's no reason for us to set the shipping rate as we're not generating the labels.
