Does anyone know who manufactures these for Viking? Are these the Demeyer pans that I would want to buy or the outsourced-to-Indonesia pans that I would like to pass on? Also, is this drop really $40 more than previous drops?

partypantsThese are made in USA, as opposed to the 3-ply model or the 'contemporary' series. afaik the manufacturer is Clipper Corp. http://www.clippercorp.com/brands_viking.html
Last drop was indeed much cheaper, at 74.99 for the 8". I'd like to think there's a mistake in the pricing, and that the 8" is actually 79.99 instead.
Also, imo the 8" is way too small for an all-around frying pan. the contact surface is actually around 6" only, so I highly recommend getting at least the 10" model. the 8" just way too restrictive if that's your only frying pan.
I specifically purchased the 8" pan from the last drop to compliment my cookware, and am extremely satisfied with the purchase.

partypantsAbsolutely not Demeyer pans. Demeyer is Belgian and is a few clicks above Viking in quality, but not in serviceability.

RayFCan you please elaborate on the serviceability of the Demeyer pans? I'm considering Demeyere Atlantis Proline 9.4" as probably my next purchase, but I want to test out this Viking first.

username02By serviceability I mean work as advertised. In that respect all of the better known manufacturers of 3 and 5-ply cookware offer products with comparable performance. Beyond that, you may find subtle differences that distinguish similar items that may suit you better than others (the shape and feel of the handles, the way lids fit, wether attachments are welded or riveted, etc...). I'm no brand loyalist--believe me, I've purchased a little something from everyone of them by now. For instance, as you probably know, Demeyer is either in cahoots or at least loosely affiliated with the German conglomerate ZWILLING J.A. Henckels. I just ordered a 3.5 qt "Aurora Conic Saucier Pan" from them. It's also 5-ply and also made in Belgium, and I got it for $99 (regularly $179)! I point this out because A) it looks very much like a 4qt Demeyere sauce pan I own (handles, and lid), and B) a good deal is a good deal. Back to Demeyer specifically, as mentioned I have the 5-ply, 4qt sauce pan with lid. It's built like a tank, and very heavy. The body and lid are shiny stainless steel, but the handles appear to be cast aluminum, and are attached without visible rivets. Comparing that to the Viking stockpot I have, the Viking uses exposed rivets for lid and pot handles. I also have an All-Clad 1.5qt and I would say the Viking stockpot and the All-Clad have more in common than either do with the much heavier, Demeyer. Personally, I'm no fan of All-Clad handles--they work, but they just don't feel good in the hand--Demeyere's do. Beyond that, I'd take a look at Demeyere's website for more detailed info: https://www.demeyere-online.com/uk/en/home.html On a separate note, I've discovered a not-so-well-known manufacturer called "Made In." Their selection is somewhat limited, but they rank near the top for quality and price in my book. https://madeincookware.com Good luck and good prices!

RayFA little late... but a quick look at Zwilling's Wikipedia page (take that as you will) shows Demeyere as a subsidiary... so that mystery is solved.
