revisiting my comment from last drop - still happy as a clam, but one significant design fault affects those who use electric stoves (induction/ceramic etc) : The handle adds weight on one side only. consequently, pan does not balance well on even surfaces which leads to uneven heat conduction. using a pan cover 'fixes' the issue, though this is not always ideal. here are a couple of images to show you what i'm talking about..

LQDForcestill didn't have trouble getting a perfectly seared steak on the very same old-generation electric stove, even without a lid or intentionally 'pressing' down the pan. (I like my steak MR with a light, partial crust that isn't charred. yum!)

Dang, if I wasn't such a huge fan of vintage cast iron pans I would be all over this drop...if it is the real deal and not a knock off for MD.

I am referring to cast iron skillets that I purchased second hand at least four decades ago. They were well used items at that time. Consequently, they appear at least as vintage, aka "old", as this old dog is.

OldTrailDogThat makes them both old and vintage! Pretty tough to wear one out, so they should serve you well, all the way to "the last cook out!"

Does anyone know who manufactures these for Viking? Are these the Demeyer pans that I would want to buy or the outsourced-to-Indonesia pans that I would like to pass on? Also, is this drop really $40 more than previous drops?

A little late... but a quick look at Zwilling's Wikipedia page (take that as you will) shows Demeyere as a subsidiary... so that mystery is solved.

Hey Massdrop? You've screwed up the drop price again!
Should be around $75-80 + $40 if you want the large pan...

I'm simply not worthy of a frying pan this good. Damn shame really, because I know I would enjoy one!

Massdrop seem to have messed up the pricing for this drop. The drop price has increased by $40 compared to previous drops (presumably because only the 12 inch pan is available this time) but you still need to select the 12-inch option in checkout and this option still adds $35 to the price!
You'd have to be mad to join the drop as it is now, you'd be paying at least $40 more for the 12-inch pan than in any previous drop, the most recent of which was just last month.
JaggiThank you for catching that Jaggi!! You are right that only the 12" is available in this drop and the original +$ option pricing was not removed before we wen't live. It is fixed now.

I would like to ask a dumb question. I purchased Viking pan on the last drop, and I don't know if I should be using a steel, or a plastic spatula? Will steel utensils mark the SS pan?

Jimbo65Steel utensils can cause marks, but they won't actually compromise the integrity of the pan. You are limited to wood/plastic if there's a non-stick coating though.

Jimbo65Will a metal scratch metal? Of course! Does it matter? Up to you!
