Has anyone done a head to head of this vs any of the Audioquest products or recent Fiio or iBasso DAC/AMP offerings? Violectric has a very good reputation, but every company is capable of turning out overpriced dogs that are not competitive. This one was pricey out of the gate and the price listed here is still above market. What are you getting for the price premium?
I have one. It’s a really great dac/amp capable to drive even dt1990. The only common problem is type-c-lightning cable — it disconnects randomly, so, it’s better to order a normal otg cable.
I like this style. I need other inputs besides just USB, like 4.4 balanced-in or optical-in, especially since the USB port on my phone is broken. I would also prefer fully-balanced with 4.4 balanced-out, but that's not a deal breaker since it adds to the price a larger %-amount than the quality gained in music, especially under the conditions this device would be used, where those % gains in balanced over unbalanced output would likely not be heard on short cables & noisy environments outside of your home. However, fully-balanced can be useful in an quiet office or for home use.

I have owned several Violectric/Lake People components; also met and talked with the company's chief designer on a couple occasions. This particular device may not be a current product, but this company is 100% for real IMO.
This device came out in August of 2021. It is not currently offered on the manufacturer website. It looks interesting, but I don't know enough about this(likely discontinued) DAC to chance nearly $200.
