I have the V281 with the upgraded volume pot. I also have the V600 Phone stage. I recently picked up a Schiit Gungnir Multibit Version 1. It does sound good. Notably smooth and wide and deep sound stage. I got such a good deal I was hoping I would be done. The tone just does not seem natural. It is listed as an analog sounding DAC but I feel it does not touch my TT for tone and naturalness.
I didn't really want to shell out the money for the V850 but at this price I had to jump in. I have a feeling the Gungnir will be up for sale. I am planning a shoot out Gungnir vs V850 and then choose. Given that I love the v281 and quite frankly think the V600 phono stage is a giant killer. Due to this I could not pass up V850 and have a feeling it will out preform the Gungnir based on the performance of my other Lake/People Violectric products. We shall see in several months. Here is hoping I am right.
I came here just to check before I get a Cambridge Audio DACMagic plus. This is the most expensive option on drop, has it been the best so far? Can anyone give me an idiots guide to why I should pay so much more for this one please?
Walk throught the discussion, I still think it is necessary to have some DSD decoding functioning. There are many hires music on the Internet with DSD format only, and you will loose a lot of musice experience without that. Such makes more sense as its target customers are mostly audiophiles.
Just need one more purchase to make this Drop compete!
It's a really great sounding DAC with balanced outputs and looks nice on top of any Violectric Amp. Ok I know I am starting to sound like a salesman but I don't want the 4 people who already placed an order to miss out (if we can not get one more purchase).
There are two sets of outputs RCA and XLR. You can use one set for a pair of powered speakers or a two channel amp. I have seen some audiophiles use the V850 as a stand alone DAC/ Pre-amp with the XLR out to a pair of power monitors and the RCA out to a subwoofer. With the built in volume control you can have a really nice simple dedicated desktop system.
Doesn't look like there is to much interest in this drop. Perhaps if it was a combo drop with the V200 amplifier it might be more attractive? Anyone have any thoughts?
ArthurPowerI am very interested but I live in The Netherlands, next to Germany.
I have to pay a lot of tax plus transport on top of the price which makes it expensive again.
