I have to update--I crammed my feet into the espradilles to try to stretch them out, and--well, you know what, they do sorta fit nice and good now. They do stretch out. Now, I wear a 9 1/2 double wide American shoe, and I usually order a size 11 if wides aren't an option. I ordered these shoes in 11, and there's a bit of room lengthways between the front of my toe and the sewn seam of the canvas upper (about 3/4 inch). But my feet are wider than this shoe's width by a bit, and my feet squash outward when I walk on the sides quite a bit.
IanAnderson says below, "The basic premise is that if the length of the shoe fits, then that is their size and the rest will stretch out." I find this to be true so far, but even in terms of length--I sized up from a 9 1/2 to an 11 ordering these shoes, and I wouldn't want to order a single size smaller.
