I have been writing with this Visconti thru Massdrop for four months. Although the fine nib writes smoothly and delivers ink without problem, the whole "hand" of the pen still is very plastic and cheap feeling. It has been on the line of my keeping it, but then I passed over the time limit of return.
So then: I've tried to talk myself into "knowing " it's a Visconti, therefore to be a high quality piece, but no. This one feels less expensive than many of my far less expensive fountain pens. My beginning Pilot Metropolitans, Lamys and TWSBIs feel much more solid in my hand - by far.
The interior threads are silver-colored but feel like painted plastic. Be very careful screwing the pen back together after filling. Threads hang up and I have to back off and slowly start again. It's possible to strip these threads. Be very careful and slow!
Bottom line: I cannot believe, all in, I paid $199 for this Van Gogh "In His Shoes" Visconti from Massdrop. I wonder if I bought a knock-off. This is my first Visconti, so I have no comparison. Lets just say my impression was this would be amongst my nicest fountain pens so far. It is not. Doubtful I will pay this kind of money again for a fountain pen through Massdrop.

marlabeeThanks for the detailed review of the pen. My experience with Visconti has been mostly less than positive, though my issues are the opposite from yours. Most of my Visconti pens write poorly and there is one that wrote abominably. Got them fixed now but this shouldn't have been the issue in the first place from such a luxurious brand. I'm avoiding Visconti (and Italian pens generally) when I can right now. However, I haven't had issues with build quality like you have faced. The build quality is alright, as far as I'm concerned. It can be better for the money paid, but at least in my pens it's acceptable. Regardless, both your experience and mine reflect the manufacturer's QC and this should really be improved. If one is paying more than $90 for a pen, it'd better be worth the price.

marlabeeI wish you had gone with a Platinum, Sailor or Lamy 2000 at this price point. Those pens offer a true luxury feel and provide a writing experience to match.

Love this pen. My favorite newer pen in years. Smooth right out of the box. No stuttering or skipping. A great writer
