so, hypothetically, where would one get a desktop for this? Somehow just putting my IKEA Linmon on it just doesn't seem right.

renegadeIXWhy not? Putting your own top on is pretty easy, after all. Depending on material you might not even need to pilot drill holes for screws.

geoffchadOh yeah, I know that part is piss easy. I mean putting an $18 laminate and cardboard filler top on a $200 steel frame doesn't seem right.

renegadeIXYou could look into one of the IKEA countertops, like the Karlby. Buying one of those and putting it on anything resembling a stand is a pretty popular thing to do. The 74" ones might work.
renegadeIXSo, funny that you mention Ikea because... Ikea sells counter tops for kitchens in various styles, sizes, and thickness and all solid wood at a good price. I would suggest looking there.

renegadeIXThe counter top may not last as long as the frame, but it'll still be awesome :D

renegadeIXMost Lowe's hardware stores carry furniture grade wood panels in various sizes. I'm using one for my desk top now. Its a 24"x72" piece of pre sanded wood that I stained and coated with polyurethane.
I know a few people that use Ikea countertops for their desk tops.
