PBT plastic has long been considered the superior plastic choice when it comes to keycap selection, but until now it has always been necessary to sacrifice backlit legends for ideal texture and feeling. With the advent of Vortex Backlit Doubleshot PBT Keycaps, it is now possible to fully enjoy your backlit mechanical keyboard's LED functionality without sacrificing durability or plastic quality for your keycaps Read More
Massdrop is nice, when you buy something you forget about it because of the time it takes the order to be fulfilled, next month you find out some cool stuff in your door, its like Christmas all over again.
"And all the update definitely do happen before the promised date."
Just to get it out there up front -- this is meant in a constructive manner, but I'm not so good at articulating things clearly sometimes. My apologies in advance if it comes across wrong. This isn't particularly focused on this thread; I've observed this happening on a lot of drops, and I'm hoping I can provide some useful data.
In many of these types of comment threads, it feels like we've all been talking past each other. I don't think anybody is particularly irritated, but here's what I see going on: The impression given by promising an update "on <date> or sooner" is that the update MIGHT come early. The dissonance comes, in my limited experience, from the fact that drop updates that are early are an expectation, but when they're met at the last minute, it somehow feels like a violation of that expectation.
Human psychology being what it is, even when updates come early, if there's one that somehow feels like it's late (even though it's technically not), that one psuedo-late update taints the whole thing.
Let's take the update post on this very drop as an example. An update was promised "on 1/15 or sooner." The expectation is that the update might get here early, 1/15 at the latest. The update was provided on 1/15 -- at 11:48 PM. I'm in the same time zone. I was actually up when it came in.
12 minutes left in the day. Yes, that meets the letter of what was promised, but even though you're doing exactly what you promised, it doesn't *feel* like it.
The only solution I've been able to come up with is to instead say, "Expect an update at the end of the day (PST) on 1/15." That way, if you're early, we're all delighted, but if it comes in at 11:48 PM, we're not disappointed.
Does that make sense / help?
arithonVery helpful @arithon, really appreciate your feedback on this. Keep more of them coming.
We certainly are not trying to use technicality of time zone difference to be correct. Our intention is to do our best to provide as many updates as we can so everyone participating in the drop can follow the progress along the way. Admittedly, we are not quite there yet. We've already have a few plans in the pipeline that we think will substantially improve the experience throughout on Massdrop. Stay tuned :)
Man, looks like I missed this. I desperately need some PBT caps. I've read these are the ones to go for when in need of backlighting as well. Seems 355 more people, including me have requested this drop again. Any idea on when another might happen?
Great news! Vortex let us know that the group's order is on its way to our warehouse now. Based on the shipping schedule we were given, we are expecting the shipment to arrive by the end of next week
The order will arrive in a bulk shipment and our warehouse team is ready to break it down into individual packages and send them out to you as soon as it arrives.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 3/20 or sooner.
Hello Everyone.
I received my order on the 13th of November and contacted support the same day. I could tell something was wrong with my batch of the black Vortex Backlit Doubleshot PBT Keycaps after 15 minutes of use. I contacted support on the same day and have not heard back from them.
Like what @BrainFlush, @Tibincrunch, and many others (from old comments) have said. These keycaps are inconsistent and have quality issues.
The keys differ in quality and in height. Some keys sit lower and some sit higher, this creates a very uncomfortable and awkward feeling when using these keys. Some of the injections in these keycaps are bad, that’s why some of my keys don’t light up properly. Some of my keys will fall out during use because of the poor Cherry MX mold.
I have keys fall off during gaming and from regular typing. I wish I could show you have many times the my keys came out during gaming. But, I can’t record while playing, so I tried to recreate those situations in the videos.
Here are videos that shows how easily the keycaps can fall off.

@KennuiI own several different keycap sets. I know how to put on keycaps. The keycaps I have don’t pop out like these vortex caps. The quality of my other keycaps are also better than these vortex caps.
Which colour set did you buy? I’m glad you don’t have any issues with your keycaps.
But if you want my shitty vortex keycaps let me know! I’ll send them to you! Just pay for shipping :D
Yes. You're right.
We're too stupid to push something down with enough force.
My little baby fingers are so weak.
Let me drop an anvil on each key to seat them properly.
Be right back.
