Almost no difference in price compared to Amazon.
I Would not recommend this drop sadly.
It's basically $10 off, versus Amazon, but you can have it instantaneously from Amazon.
INSTANTANEOUSLY from Amazon..... ?
So now they've developed Enterprise Transporters, beaming goods across the planet......go on, I know you Yanks are advanced but I doubt you've got that kind of tech, at your disposal ; )
But they are scarily fast. A friend ordered a book in the morning, and it was delivered that afternoon. Compared to "waiting for a Drop", Amazon seems instantaneous. We're so advanced, we're letting Amazon put everyone else out of business.
I was hoping this was going to drop on Massdrop. Sadly it wasn't as discounted as I was hoping for. So I ordered this on Amazon at 12:00 PM today and it got here at 7:30 PM. Not even a full work day later and I have the product in hand.
Also remember Amazon isn't a Group Buy facility, it is an actual STORE front.
MassDrop is strictly a Group Buy venture, so trying to compare both businesses isn't logical at all when they are completely different in regards to their activities.
Besides, Amazon is actually coming to Australia soon, so we'll enjoy that store front here in Convict Town. It may also be the end of MassDrop purchases for me because Amazon will also provide FREE shipments of all of their goods to their local customers.
" MassDrop is strictly a Group Buy venture, so trying to compare both businesses isn't logical at all when they are completely different in regards to their activities."
You are completely correct. However, to the customer (e.g. me), that distinction only matters when Massdrop provides something distinct that I cannot get via Amazon. That is Massdrop's strength, and it is negated when they drop something that is available for almost the same price more quickly elsewhere.
I really appreciate Massdrop's ability to organize unusual drops. I'll be very interested the next time they drop the Whitefox.
Given the recent drama between MD and I:C, you won't see a whitefox on MD any time soon, sadly. Luckily, you can preorder using their web store.
A real shame when that happens, Male hormones overcome logical progressions so WE the customer lose out.
Just don't feel comfortable handing over my money to another no-name entity claiming MD done them wrong.
Better to avoid such blatant "Trump-like" behaviour because that seems the status quo now everywhere, including the business world. No matter how bad MassDrop seems to be to those people I would always prefer dealing with them rather than the whingers and whiners.
This drop is only useful ..in my opinion for people who are out of USA.
Race 3 is not even sold here in Canada and Amazon.com does not ships it here either.
Also it is sold out at Mechanical Keyboards as well.
Input Club aren't no-names.. they just organized a massive group buy for the Whitefox actually. They aren't a "no-name entity claiming MD done them wrong.", they had a name for themselves before partnering with Massdrop. The Massdrop drama isn't Input Club claiming that Massdrop did them wrong, it's about intellectual property rights and I:C says their contract with MD said they could sell their own switches themselves but not through another distributor, MD considered a Kickstarter another distributor even though I:C is running the campaign and got legal stuff involved. I:C posted part of their contract with MD to prove they were in the right, but sadly a multi-million dollar corporation like MD will just bleed out the small group of engineers at I:C in court by dragging it out until they can't afford lawyer costs. I:C as a result is taking the old switch they designed and had Massdrop produce and making it better with a revised version so they can sell it on their own again.
Correct this keyboard is extremely popular for those wanting ALL the keys still attached to their device instead of relying on two to three switches to to be pressed at the same time to initiate a response like on MOST 60% keyboards.
To ME the 60% is a grossly inefficient keyboard design designed to take longer to do things than the standard keyboard layout. Sorry for the RANT but this is MD, hence ALWAYS expect it ; )
Agreed: While I got the vortex core off Amazon (lovely: using it now) they don't ship the Racer 3 to Australia, but they do ship the Pok3r... and all supplied from the same company: go figure.
I also spent some **cough** hours trying to track down a retailer with present supply. There were none.
This drop is great for those otherwise unable to get the board.
If you work in IT, as do I ... I need the 75% for comfort and day to day job.
I think I can get by a 60% or a 40% for gaming or youtube and regular stuff.
I work in IT for a school and I can barely get by on a 75%. Currently using a Corsair K95 and using all the macro keys on two layers. One layer for domain and everyday general stuff and another for HTML stuff.
As for the RACE 3 I ordered, I ripped the keycaps off the White Fox for it. Here's to hoping there will be a bunch of "affordable" keycaps for it soon.
3 Days Amazon... 3 Months Massdrop.
That may be a slight exaggeration but you get the point.
It's more like 8 hours amazon to 2 and a half months for massdrop.
I've to agree with you. I'm also in IT and use a Leopold FC660m as my daily driver at work. It's frustrating to deal with lack of Pg Up/Dn and Home/End keys, being forced to use Fn key combo requiring uncomfortable hand motions. I love my Leopold but I've had it. I'm ready for this Vortex race 3 board, even if I have to wait 3 months for a brown switch unit.
As for the delivery time, I contemplated ordering the red switch unit from Amazon, but I've a strong feeling that the island style of the board along with my tendency to bottom out hard on red switches will make it too noisy for the office, so I decided against it. On ebay, the brown switch unit is going for $190 which i feel is too steep for this board. With no good options, I opted in to this group buy and told myself I'll suffer the ghastly hand twists for 3 more months.
Mother of scrod! Did something happen with the K-Type drop? You can't buy that board from I:C -- not yet, at least!
I participated in the White Fox drop. There were a few manufacturing issues, but I thought that drop went well.
MD and I:C are having a disagreement about the rights of I:C to sell boards that contain the 'Halo' switches. I:C is trying to do a drop of their own using Kickstarter, and MD seems to think this violates a contract.
I am not a lawyer.
