I have been wanting to buy a watch from Drop for over 3 months now; the choice just seemed to go from ordinary to bad, then bad to worse and so on and on........ so I have tempted fate with ordering this Vostok Europe which I quite like with the enamel look ivory white dial model ending 518. I have been itching to use my reward dollars up before , and I say this with some trepidation: the "watch department" at Drop either implodes or departs!!!!!!! That observation is based only on the stock offerings we have had from Drop the past few months; the options ,not just quality and pricing seems to be dropping, excuse the pun!! I really hope I am wrong as I have been a very active customer these past two years. Fingers crossed I am wrong!!!

Anyone still dissing the Vostok-Europe brand out of hand, would do well to read the reviews (from guys who actually own them) first. If nothing else, it with keep you from looking/sounding like a dummkopf!

Tempted. But no. Just looking on the forum, these things are very difficult to resell, and even at this price, value drops immediately. If I had no intention of selling it and loved the watch, then maybe.

HoldenitdownLooking at sold listings on eBay you should be able to resell this watch for close $200 or more, not sure where you are getting your info on re-sale value.

22 jewels so I guess this would be the Orient or 'Seiko Epson' movement, decent enough but scratchy winding mechanism...

Like Gusbriarwood said at the beginning of the year, too bad for the 3!! I agree. I like a lot about this watch. I have watched the videos, and it looks like it has a great finish. But the way the 3 is just cut in half makes me think they just shoved in a movement that was available, and it had a date trap. So a cut was needed!! I would have preferred what Geckota did on their G-01 watch and keep the movement but have no showing date window, but have the 3 clearly showing on the dial, and the watch would have a better balanced look. At first I thought what a silly thing to do at Geckota; but obviously the movement suits the watch; when I read the reviews on the Geckota they said they could hear the movement click over the date, and after a while it wasn't a worry as the watch looked so good. I am not in any way technical so I guess there are movements that would suit with no date option just the three hands and power reserve; but maybe it is a cost issue at Geckota, and here at VE they just decided to put the date window in!!! I probably would have also left off the 11 and 1 numerals parts as they are virtually gone anyway ; as it does also make the power reserve look like an add-on. There is room for more pronounced hour markers under each numeral , it would have been good to perhaps consider small lume dots and kill two birds with one stone.

Vostok Europe is based in Lithuania and when they got started in 2003 they worked closely with Russian Vostok company and used Vostok movements in their watches. I have couple older GAZ Limo designs and they have Vostok mechanics in them. At some point VE started to diversify their movement suppliers and got into Asian movements. I am not sure what happened to their cooperation with original Vostok company, but VE moved away from Russian movements.

I can confirm that finish on Vostok Europe watches is better that on Russian Vostok watches, hence the higher prices. I never paid full price for any of my VE watches though, I think their MSRPs are too high for what they are, but at 50% discount they are well made timepieces and are worth the price. At $200 this is as low as this model goes, I've been watching offerings on eBay and the lowest they sell is in low-mid $200s.

By the way, here's the link to the manufacturer's page for this model: https://www.vostok-europe.com/yn85-560a517/ There are lots of other cool models to check out while you're there. And for anyone still confused about the movement, here's a short video explaining why you might not have heard of it before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrLooJJ38kI

I happen to own a Vostok-Europe (as all us kool kats do) and I can personally vouch for their quality and functionality. You will be especially impressed by the brilliance of the domed crystal and the depth of the dial. Markers and indices (applied or otherwise) are sharp and highly reflective such that even in dim light they appear to be luminescent against the dark background of the dial. The leather straps are quite substantial and the buckle is signed. If you're not a fan of the strap supplied, the standard size lugs allow easy changes. If you aren't intimidated by the case size and don't mind standing out amongst the more vanilla flavored dress watches one generally encounters in the workplace, you won't be disappointed with this one.

Speaking of that domed sapphire crystal, here's something else I just noticed--on mine, the blue AR coating really stands out when the angle to light is just right. Can't be sure it's exactly the same on the model above, but I wouldn't be surprised. See what I mean...
