OMG - don't buy this! You can get the SAME THING on Amazon for around $40. Seriously. This is ridiculous. DO NOT PAY $140 for this thing!!!! Shame on Massdrop - this isn't a deal, it's a rip-off. I routinely find equal or better prices on items offered here from websites with much less complicated purchasing processes and shorter shipping times.
I have one, it's great and very useful, but DO NOT BUY THIS ONE FOR THIS PRICE.

savvyminxHi @savvyminx, Can you link to that? When we did our price check prior to launching the lowest price found was $203.80 for the Wafer 2 lightbox which is what the drop is for.

SandyLucasTheir point is that you can buy a lightbox on Amazon (or, really anywhere that sells art supplies) for around $40 and this item is VERY overpriced regardless of what it's MSRP is. Charging $142.99 for this item *is absolutely bonkers* as it does literally nothing that a $40 equivalent doesn't do. Even at $40 I feel like I paid too much for my light box...this isn't exactly complicated technology.
I feel bad for people who purchased this in the past.

savvyminxI disagree! I ordered this on a previous drop, and a COMPARABLE one on amazon cost much more. Yes, you can get less expensive ones, but they are NOT the same thing. If you are going to post comments like this, please post a link to the same item for only $40, because I think you are mistaken--and you could be misleading people who might really appreciate this but not order it based on your comment. I really, really like mine--it is awesome!--and it was less expensive here than on amazon. :)

OzziepuppyThis isn't a complicated item. I have happily used my $40 wafer lightbox for 2 years. It's very bright, with adjustable light settings, and it does the one thing that it's designed to do, quite well. The only thing I can think of that could be added as a feature would be battery power over adapter power, but this expensive wafer doesn't offer that feature. It literally does nothing that mine doesn't do. However, everyone is free to spend their money as they see fit, so ... *shrug*

A quick search reveals several options that perform the exact same task for a much lower price. Identical brand? No, but really, how complicated is the item? There are big differences between other items with varying price ranges, for example, cameras or cars... But a lightbox does only one thing.

OzziepuppyCan you explain what your $140 lightboard does that a $40 equivalent can't do? What about this product makes it worth so much more than the average?
As far as I can tell it even has the same build as my cheap light board, featuring the exact same power-button style (in the exact same position), the exact same cable, and the exact same plastic backing.

ZildjianAs I have not seen your light box I can not comment on the comparison between it and the one that I have (that I ordered from Massdrop previously). Of course, a window will work well as a light box, as will a piece of plexiglass placed across two boards with a lightbulb underneath, as will any of a number of different inexpensive light boxes. They will all work. I have used several of them. When I was initially considering my purchase, I did some comparison shopping online and the exact same one offered by Massdrop was selling for considerably more elsewhere (same model, etc.). Therefore I felt that ordering from Massdrop instead of from any of the other, more expensive, sites made sense. I can only say that when I opened the package from Massdrop I was completely satisfied with the quality of this particular lightbox. The one I ordered is very large and wafer-thin, the lights are exceptionally bright, and and there are no hot spots nor are there any darker spots. It is a beautiful, well-made piece of equipment. I have used it mainly for appliqué work to go on pillows and quilts, and it is just a joy to use. All I can say is that if you find the EXACT same model elsewhere for less, of course you should go for it. If you are perfectly happy with alternatives that are less expensive, you should of course use them. Nonetheless, this model is a very satisfactory tool that is extremely well made and is quite enjoyable to use. Personally, I like using it much more than I ever liked using a window or any of my cheaper lightboxes. Your mileage may vary, of course.
