Sorry to see that WE has followed Spyderco's lead and don't really give you a discount. This is the same price as retailers and you won't have to wait.

BoxBladeI don't see this for sale anywhere else yet, where do you see it retailing for this price?

JubilantBearYou'll see it soon. I'm just pointing out that WE isn't giving any deals on Massdrop, just like Spyderco. Blade HQ has WE's for 25% off right now.

BoxBladeYeah, I noticed some shady stuff sometimes, like spydercos selling here for the minus $10 or whatever for the case then they get discounted and go on sale elsewhere. I think the Lionspy was $70 cheaper a week after the drop.

BoxBladeIronically Spyderco has discounted its Tighe Stick knife, with a similar upswept blade, with better blade to handle ratio, for much cheaper than this knife. A much better knife in all aspects for a much lower price

OnionmanThat is because it was discontinued. That Tighe Stick is pretty butt-ugly and was originally way overpriced (over $400). Why Spyderco forced that Spydie hole hump on that design is beyond me. Would have been better if it was done away with. I just handled a Tighe Stick and it didn't deploy great or even have a lockbar insert. WE delivers more bang for the buck. The Sea Monster has better materials with titanium and M390 IMHO.

BoxBladeBrian Tighe has collector value, no name WE knife does not. Spyderco has collector value, no name We knives does not. Maybe someday WE knives gets a name for itself, but right now you will always get much more bang for the buck with a Spyderco designed by a famous maker than you will with one of these no name companies. A thousand times more. This is just a fact. For you to say otherwise is pretty silly, especially when you see that WE knives have no resale value at all, unless you want to lose $100 or more

OnionmanYou are living in the past. I'll take a WE over a Spyderco any day of the week. Better materials, better build, better fit and finish. Better value. Keep your head in the sand. Why did Todd Begg, Boos Blades, and others go to WE to build their knives? Better quality and bang for the buck. I want Spyderco to win in the battle against the Chinese, but they don't even acknowledge the threat. Sort of like you. My Isham WE knives have no collector value? Really. I've made money on the WE knives I've sold.

BoxBladespyderco makes knives to be used, g10 scales and full flat grinds, they dont look pretty but they work very very well as knives, they dont see WE as a threat because their design goals are different than WE's. what is this head stuck in the sand shit? yes WE's offer good materials and fit and finish, but they dont always work well as knives. the 702 uses a blade stock of 0.16in thick, on a blade thats half an inch from edge to spine, and they still left it as a saber grind because it looks better. the primary bevel of its grind is such a wide angle you might as well use an axe instead. as to the person you were replying to, spyderco knives only have collector value with the collaborations knives like the slysz bowie and shit that get discontinued, or with specific sprint runs. otherwise they hold value about as well as WE's do and pretty much any other production knife for that matter.

VaerakAnd Spyderco is way overpriced for the materials. Ugly and overpriced. Sounds like a winner. How did they raise a G-10 , S30 v knife, the Shaman, 22% in price after just three months of release. Spydergreed. These Chinese knives are a threat so what does Spyderco do? Did they improve materials or lower price, no they raised prices.

BoxBladeyou seem pretty bent on bashing spyderco. i never even mentioned price im just talking about function. i agree with you the spyderco pricing change for 2018 is pretty fucked. but they have the reputation and customer base to do it, as much as i dislike it and i will probably buy alot less spyderco's from now on because of it, its there choice in the end. and like i said before the chinese knives arent as much of a threat to spyderco. if anything they threaten ZT, which may be why all new ZT's are moving to 20cv so they can compete with the chinese using m390.

VaerakI'd choose ZT over spyderco and WE all day. Warranty is the best. Talk about knives being made to use, they will give you the opportunity to replace a blade for around $30, way better than having to replace the whole knife, which is the only option with spyderco and WE.

VaerakI like to think my views on Spyderco are constructive criticism. I believe their customer base will erode with their materials and prices. I agree with you on ZT. They are keeping up on materials and offer way more bang for your buck. More and more Chinese companies are emerging with high quality knives and are real threat to Spyderco and Benchmade. Sad part is our outsourcing to China gave them the expertise to make such high quality knives. I think WE has to be careful on their QC. They are making so many models and OEM's I think they are having some issues there. They do have a warranty rep. in the US which is smart.

BoxBladeSpyderco will survive in the long run if they keep making innovative designs. I always liked Kershaw and ZT and have nothing against them or WE knives specifically, but I think WE is a bit overpriced and their designs are either just ugly, like the sea monster, or just ordinary that have been done before many times over. Also Spyderco, like ZT and Benchmade, come out with limited designs that sometimes are discontinued. WE just came out a few years ago and is selling almost 300 different knives and variations right now on knifecenter. I don't even think ZT or Spyderco has that many knives in their entire history. Flooding the marking with generic knife designs, no matter how good the materials or workmanship is, makes them less collectible.. Also, their pricing is just too high for me, particularly when they have no resale value. You would be lucky to get $50 for this knife if listed for auction on Ebay.

OnionmanThe Sea monster is a love it or hate it design (mostly a hated). Many of WE's designs are like that. I like the fact that they offer each model in a variety of colors. You rarely have to mod a WE. They do it for you. As for overpriced, I'm not buying that. When WE came onto the scene, they were selling their knives for $300. Most models are now around $250. Their budget line gives you 3D milled G-10, D2 steel, ceramic bearings, titanium hardware and clip for $100. You have to admit that a Delica in FRN and VG-10 at $75 is outrageous when you look at Real Steel, Bestech and Ruike knives. Many Spyderco's too are beyond ugly. That Tighe Stick was a monstrosity. It was originally over $400. At that price, I'd get a Chris Reeve knife. I do like that Spyderco has some nice sprint runs and experiments with different steels, but most of their knives are just plain overpriced. I just got the WE Eschaton (only 700 CF's made) and the Zeta (only 700 made) and I believe they will fetch a premium in the future. I agree most aren't hugely collectible because they are still in production. I truly believe Spyderco and Benchmade will suffer from their unjustified price increases and inferior materials in an increasingly competitive market. Have a good weekend. I enjoyed the talk.
