While it looks like a thick bamboo shoot, the Welly Bottle is much more. Featuring a double-walled vacuum-sealed construction with 18/8 stainless steel, it will keep your coffee hot for 8 hours and your iced tea cold for 12 Read More
I didn't get the filter with this, because it's overpriced and does nothing. The box contained a note saying there was complaints about the glue used on the bottom, but mine had no smell. However, this is probably because there isn't much. Even just having this around the house, the bottom has started peeling.
I bought this bottle under the assumption I could use it as an everyday bottle, but I wouldn't reccomend it for anybody. It holds a lot of liquid, but being non-dishwasher safe, it makes it almost impossible to clean the bottom of the bottle. The lid has a very deep threading, so it's ALSO impossible to clean inside it. Basically, anything other than extremely clean water will cause dirty buildup. Having a double-walled bottle for JUST water seems like overkill, seeing how accessible cold water is.
I just received this bottle. I got an included letter saying the adhesive used for the rubber bottom did not completely dry out, so there is a strong smell. However, it concerns me that the smell is present inside the bottle.
What concerns me even more is that the rubber bottom is loose. The adhesive is very weak and did not end up attaching the rubber bottom to the bottle. Very disappointed in the product. The smell just adds insult to injury. They could've dried the adhesive longer to cure out the smell and actually keep it attached.
davidlyThe one I got has this same issue. The smell is fading away after leaving hot water in there with no lid all night but the bottom rubber pulls off very easy.
As Peycho pointed out, this is NOT going to filter your water. On Wellys website it admits: only use for potable (drinkable ) tap water. The charcoal will not even strain sediments out of water because you just drop it into the bottle meaning it is smaller that the opening.
Just to share some facts. In order for the charcoal filter to actually filter anything, the water needs to be pressure pushed through the charcoal. Simply dropping a piece of charcoal in the bottle does little to nothing in terms of filtration. Water needs to go through the pores of the charcoal so the impurities may be trapped in them.
I would not mind the bottle but the shipping costs are simply unreasonable (I wonder if this is a way to subsidize the lower price, which is even lower than the initial Kickstarter pledge).
Too bad, looks like a nice bottle
