I just received a drop (a Super5 calligraphic fountain pen) from Massdrop. It arrived in a standard small bubblewrap envelope, with no box, and only a thin plastic sleeve around the pen. It was rattling around in the envelope, which was far larger than the pen.
I certainly hope more care will be taken in shipping the Wink drop out -- I already own a few glass nib pens, and I can tell you it doesn't take much to break them or chip the nibs, rendering them unusable. And this one is going to cost three times as much as the Super5 did.
Further, the Wink reservoir is also glass, so any bending during handling while in transit is likely to destroy the pen, too. I'd hate to have to return it because somebody didn't consider something so simple (and necessary).

LeftymlbMy Wink pen arrived yesterday. I shouldn't have worried. The pen, and the packaging, were exquisite and perfect for the delicate care the pen needs. The addition of all the foam surrounding the pen ensured that even rough handling by the postal service or other carriers in the holiday rush wouldn't be a problem.
I'm glad to have it, and I'll be using it with a variety of different inks, paints and other media -- what a great gift I just gave myself. I'm glad I joined the drop. It was absolutely worth it.
