Why are these wool pressing mats so much less expensive than other brands?

KateinIowaKateinIowa, I'm finding these aren't actually a bargain or even a discount. I went to Amazon and searched for Wool Ironing Mat and the sorted the 170 listings by "Average Customer Review" and the top rated mat is 17 x 24 (so 2" larger than this mat) and is $51.....or a dollar more than this 15 x 24" mat. I always thought DROP was a heavily discounted co-op purchase, but I've yet to find anything that I can't buy locally or online, like Amazon, for the same or less.....AND I can get it now, not wait a month to see if the purchase is even going to occur. Maybe I'm just not understanding DROP. I couldn't find the Maywood brand anywhere, so I can't research if it's quality, but since it's price is not competitive I won't bother to take the risk. Especially since you can't return these if you don't like the quality, but on Amazon I have 30 days. My local store has wool mats for about $10 more if I want to "feel" it before I buy. If I'm missing something, someone let me know, but I still haven't found any reason to buy from DROP, not price, not quality, not speed of receiving. I know there are a lot of positive reviews....so it will be interesting whether my not exactly positive review will stay up or not. If it goes away, I'm done even looking here, lol.

janparJanpar - from what I've observed we are supporting small businesses through Drop. I've noticed that when buyers are unhappy, most sellers jump to make it right. The price may not be extremely discounted but it isn't retail either. And, have you ever noticed how Amazon's prices fluctuate? Even sometimes hourly! Amazon prices will be better until they're the only one left!

janparJanpar, Thanks for the information. It is very helpful. My husband and I prefer to shop in our small, rural town of 10,000 people - but, of course, in a town this small, the pickings are pretty slim. We have two small cities (at least to us they feel like cities!), each about 40,000 people and 40 miles away, that have JoAnn and several privately-owned fabric stores, all of which I will check out. Again, thank you for your information. I have not yet purchased anything from DROP - we're beginning a remodel of our bathroom and are keeping spending down on items that are a wish rather than a necessity. Again, thank you for the information.
