My box: Lime Green Corcho Slim Note ($15) Lamy Charcoal Safari EF ($35) Triplus Fineliner 20 pack ($30) Rhodia Dot Grid paper (A4) ($9) G-Tec-C .25 mm (red) (also they made them that small???) ($2) G-Tec-C .3mm (blue/black 12 pk) ($20) Karas Kustoms Ink black body (just the body! WTF) (I literally cannot price this as it's not a complete pen!) Pelikan Edelstein Onyx ink ($31)
Before you ask -- yes, I looked in my box. There is no nib unit for the Ink body -- not even a converter. The package was complete and the Ink is brand new, but there's literally nothing screwed inside the body. I looked online at Karas Kustoms and not only can I not tell the difference between the two Ink versions, I might be SOL on nib units for the 1.0 (if this is a Ink 1.0)
I'm super disappointed, Massdrop. You gave me something in my box I literally cannot write with and now I have to go out and buy a grip to complete this pen. :/

lordruthvenI am in the same boat as you with the Karas Kustom body. I contacted support about it and was initially told I would receive a replacement grip but was later contacted saying they could not send anything as the grip portion was not part of the drop. Super frustrating as the rest of my box was so-so.

corr33That's bad customer service there, and also really dumb of them to not send grip units -- what are they going to do about those? Keep them for later?
They basically gave us a useless piece of metal and said "sorry sucks to be you". I wonder if we can escalate this.

lordruthvenYeah I was a bit curious why grips weren't included considering you can't purchase the body separately from the grip. I imagine from returns on previous drops they wound up with some excess bodies laying around. That still doesn't excuse sending pen pieces and not a full pen though.
It looks like our boxes were packaged near each other. For reference here's the rest of my box: Pilot Varsity 7 pack Pilot Varsity Green single Staedtler Triplus Fineliner 20 pack Moleskine Volant Extra Large Plain Rhodia No 16 Dotpad Lime Green Corcho Slim Note Lamy Safari Charcoal EF Edelstein Onyx Karas Kustoms Ink black body

corr33Of course I don't know what MD support sent you, but your report of the emails implies that they DO have grip units in stock. I wonder how many other people are going to get a empty Ink pen body as well...:(

lordruthvenSorry, I didn't explain myself very well in the first message. MD support indicated they did not have grips in stock and would order from the vendor. I was asked what grip I wanted and provided that info. About 20 minutes later they contacted me and indicated they would not provide a grip since it was not part of the drop. I have replied to their most recent email and am awaiting reply.

corr33I also emailed support as well. No reply yet but I'm kinda angry now that MD now expects us to shell out more money just to make our boxes complete.

lordruthvenI received a reply from MD today with a resolution but don't want to go into details just yet. I am also in contact with Karas Kustoms to see what version pen I have as well as price and availability of the v1 grips. If my pen is a v2 then I will consider my situation resolved and post some rough details on the resolution. However, if my pen is a v1 and the grips aren't available or are more expensive than the v2 grips I will follow up with MD with the new information and try to achieve a more fair resolution.

corr33I think it's a v1, as I screwed in my v1 grip and it works. However I have also sent a pic to KK for confirmation.

lordruthvenI received word from KK it is a v1 and grip, nib, and rollerball sections are still available in Aluminum and Brass. In an effort to use discretion regarding how MD support resolved this situation, I will say that MD equivalently followed through on their initial promise to provide a replacement grip so that the body is functional. Lordruthven, for you and anyone else who received just a body, if you have contacted KK and know what they offer for the v1 this should help provide some direction in dealing with support.

corr33Really? They didn't offer me a grip section when they replied back. :/ I sent an email back saying that I wasn't happy with how it was resolved. If they respond I'll try to use your info, thanks.

lordruthvenLooks like I'm 0 for 2 for being a clear communicator. Let me try this again while trying to be slightly less vague. They initially offered me a grip but then rescinded the offer when they realized they weren't offering the grip with the drop. When they rescinded the offer they gave me something that was very unsatisfactory. I replied indicating what they offered would not work and requested something else instead (what I asked for was based off my chat with support earlier that day. They may have gotten wise to their mistake and been more careful with promises/offers). What they gave me is the equivalent of a grip that would get the body into a functional state. I am still spending additional money directly to KK to get exactly what I wanted, but this drop wasn't about getting what you wanted, just something that was at least pseudo functional. Hopefully that clears things up.

lordruthvenThe Writing Mystery Boxes were comprised of odd-lot inventory of historical products on Massdrop. Of the over 1500 items that were packed into the mystery boxes, unfortunately 13 pen bodies slipped into the mix and a handful of customers received them. Although the nature of the box is to receive "a random assortment of Writing items", we did not intend to include these pen bodies. We'd like to extend our deepest apologies to the affected customers and they will receive a $25 refund. Please contact customer support and they will arrange the refund. (I see that you've already been in contact with them, they have just been given this guidance on how to handle the situation this morning. Sorry for the confusion, troubleshooting 'mystery boxes' isn't exactly in their standard operating procedures).
