Using this in conjunction with a HIFIMAN HE350, on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+, and I have to say, sound reproduction is flawless, even at max volume. I dare not listen to anything in the 'red' volume zone though, or my hearing wouldn't last very long. I think this DAC might be a REQUIREMENT...especially if you have a USB Type-C phone without a headphone jack.
is there an answer to the headset question? i'm really on the fence about getting this but if i can't use my headset functions with it it's a no go for me
mad_dog_94OK, so I just tested it with the AKG earbuds that come with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I can confirm that the headset buttons do NOT work. Only the buttons on the DAC (play/pause, volume) will work. I suspect that if your headset also has skip fwd/back buttons on it as well, they may not work also. I guess the DAC doesn't 'pass through' your headset controls to the phone.
Works totally well, easy handling, for the price absolutely okay..
So, got mine Xduoo Link two days ago..
Its really a little "fun thing", read it elsewhere hat Xduoo place more importance on the "fun factor", and that it makes..
Okay, its not the "grandmaster" in clarity, positioning and soundstage, but for 40$ its anyway a bargain..
Soundwise its a lttle bit "under" some ES9018K2M-chinese-boards (need a pi or usb-bridge for them too) but i had an CambridgeAudio Dacmagic 100 (with Wolffson/Burr-Brown in it) and i must say, this Xduoo beat it absolutely !..
So, for this price absolutely okay + very easy handling and no problems in Win10 whatsoever !!
Works great with my android phone with Poweramp music player. No brainer plug and play. Music is more detailed, impactful with enhanced soundstage. Good sounding DAC for the price.
I like to use my cell as my mobile music library but am a bit of an audiophile so I prefer quality sound. This mini amp gives good warmth to digital recording making my listening that much better.
I actually wrote a very detailed review but then when I click "post review" I got this "ops we couldn't display your page" and lost all the things I wrote. Tried it a few times and keep getting the same thing. Few months passed by now I'm trying again and just copying and pasting my review from the "discussions" section.
My current dongle DAC is Hidizs Sonata HD II, I've been comparing it with the Xduoo the last 2 days.
Xduoo Link is cleaner sounding, but almost too analytical and cold.
Xduoo Link has more forward vocal.
Hidizs Sonata HD II has warmer tonality.
Hidizs Sonata HD II has better mid range.
Hidizs Sonata HD II has more bass in general and also deeper bass (sub bass).
Hidizs Sonata HD II has wider sound stage.
So while Xduoo physically has everything that I wanted, nice build quality (metal), nice functional volume play/pause buttons (even work in Windows), nice orange accent.
Drawback is somehow the USB C plug is super super tight and almost feel like it was gonna break my phone, the 3.5 mm plug side also has non-existent "click" when you insert the headphone jack.
But the biggest drawback is that as a whole, I think I still like Hidizs Sonata HD II better (For my preference, Hidizs sounds better). And it's about the same price as Xduoo. So unfortunately I probably would still recommend Hidizs Sonata HD II over Xduoo Link.
By the way this is not to say Xduoo Link is bad, it's actually very clean and detailed dac/amp. But the very very top end and bottom end is just not extended as Sonata HD. Also for my preference I prefer a warmer signature. But if you're after neutrality then the Xduoo is a good choice.
Hope this helps. :)
UPDATE: I end up getting Audioquest Dragonfly Red down the line, and it's currently my main dac/amp, which I like more than the Hidizs Sonata HD and Xduoo Link.
Time to update this post.
After contacting Xduoo via their website, I got contacted by one of their folks by email. We exchanged a few messages where I provided all the details needed, issue details, proof of purchase... On September 22 he provided the tracking number for the replacement unit and I'm happy to confirm I received it yesterday, November 17. A wait well worth. Thank you Xduoo!
I received the device exactly two months ago (Feb 3rd). It worked fine until 3 days ago when, despite the great care taken when using it (I doubt I used it more than a dozen times), it developed an interrupt somewhere in the cable. This, after I started using it with an iPad in a case where the dongle hangs on the right side of the iPad, thus bending downward because of its weight. The only way I can still use it is flat, on a table with the cable perfectly straight.
It's too late to return it to Drop and Xduoo has not acknowledged my warranty question submitted via their website the same day it hapapened.... I have to hope this is because of the ongoing global situation and I will be more than happy to update this review when/if I receive any response from them.
Time to throw it back in it’s box for now and forget about it for the time being.
.......................................
Been using it with all kind of headphones, Meze 99 Noir, Sennheiser HD 25, HD 598, Momentum, Audeze iSine 20...). They key here is to use a player that can bypass the Android limitation of reducing the volume. I use Tidal or NeutronMP (with the direct USB digital option on). On regular or native music players, the volume is like 1/2.
My only issue is the cable is a bit stiff and long. I like the iBasso dongle cable better, shorter and more flexible. But then, the controls on the Link are so welcome!
Well, one thing we know for sure, Xduoo doesn’t seem to give a damn...
I started looking for USB-C plugs hoping I could cut the cable and solder it on a plug, not sure I can take the DAC apart and remove the entire cable.
When I first received the link, I loved it. Has nice power to drive your headphones. But after a couple weeks, it just cuts off anytime I move my phone. Even though there is a wire and it seems flexible, it seems to be the issue with mine. Good price for a working usb-c dac/amp. If it works longer then 2 weeks. I wouldn't buy again.
UPDATE: Played with the wire and got it working again. But then it just as t keeps cutting out still. Very frustrating device.
