Tube versus transistor: it’s an age-old amplifier matchup, with the winner often coming down to preference. When you can’t decide, xDuoo’s MT-602 headphone amp settles the score by bringing you both Read More
This is my first tube amp and even though it's a hybrid I think it definitely adds the touch to sound through it. I have been loving it and it has already prompted me to get a bigger one because I liked this one so much.
The build quality of this amp is impressive for the price but the included power supply is kind of average. The first thing I did was to get rid of the supplied tubes and replaced them with some Raytheon 6AK5 tubes that I already had. After 20 hours of burn in I started listening with a set of Beyer DT 770 250 ohm phones playing with a iPod touch it got plenty loud at 1 o'clock on the nob, using my Modi DAC, 12 o'clock was plenty loud. With 32 ohm headphones 10 o'clock was loud. So as far as power this amp seems to have plenty and the background is pretty quite. The sound is warm and smooth but not quite as detailed as I would like, but different tubes might make a difference there. This amp does offer some nice features like a 3.5mm input on the front and 2 headphone jacks- one 1/4 inch and a 3.5mm jack, the preamp out does sound good and would work well with powered speakers but one major knock is that the tubes sit far into the body of the amp so pulling them out and putting new ones in is challenging. Overall this would serve most pretty well as a desktop or bedside amp with a little tube sound but mostly solid state.
iPod to amp or other analog source to amp- no DAC needed. Computer into a DAC or a digital source-like a TV or CD player with optical outs into a DAC will usually provide the better audio quality.
An amazing little unit that powers my HD6xx. Running it off of Audioengine D3 and will be upgrading my DAC somewhere down the line. The build quality is great and it sounds really good with GE JAN 5654W.
This is my second tube a/b amp, also own a Bravo Audio v2. This little amp is great plenty of power for even the HD6xx. It really makes the HD6xx come alive, they are a little bit too neutral for my taste. It stays much cooler than my Bravo Audio V2 having a small child the Bravo Audio gets a bit too hot for my liking. This amp stays much cooler.
The tiny size of this thing is great for saving desk space. The 3.5mm input is really handy and makes this amp usable without having to buy an expensive DAC along with it. I've been running it out of the headphone jack on my monitor for the past few months and it sounds great. It's definitely a good starter amp and a good intro to tube amps. The sound is airy and light but still packs a punch in the bass. It's a significant improvement over audio direct from the monitor. It packs enough punch to get uncomfortably loud in my meze 99 neos and I haven't even turned it up past half for fear of blowing them out. It's great for low and high impedance.
If you are looking for a decent start to find, this might be it. It comes with some great features for the price and the look is sleek. It also can drive many headphones. Would recommend 100%
