this style of amp has existed in the DIY world for decades now! It really is quite simple! In fact this is one of the simplest existing HPamp architectures around!
look up YAHA headphone amp for examples of various types!
these low voltage preamp tubes like the 6j1 work surprisingly well down to around 12 volts! It may not be optimal but that’s not the point!
there are better low voltage tubes available but they’re either expensive or no longer produced!
I would personally suggest building an amp like this over purchasing one! It can easily be done for under a $100 for high quality components. But does require the necessary motivations.

KuroYarimanThe tube is not necessary for this amp to function as a solid state amp (which is what it is) at all. If you are talking about the tube being necessary to light up and be a component in this pre amp then yes...but the tube is not needed at all to make this amp perform its standard duties. It can be bypassed. I suggest you go away and read up yourself instead of talking nonsense.

Rowdy2026This a hybrid amplifier, and yes, the tube on the hybrid amp makes a difference, I've already compared 3 different hybrid amps with solid state amps, and on hybrids there's always a fuller sound, with more body and presence, and stronger bass , and that difference is due to the tube. On hybrids that use 12AU7 tubes it is possible to make them all solid state because there is a solid state component that fits in the tube socket, but without the tube they don't work; the hybrid amps I tested were the Hifiman EF-5, Bravo Ocean and this Xduoo MT-602.
