I have the Schiit stack, Modi2, Magni3 & Loki. I haven’t got a lot of time with it so nothing significant to report but my initial impression using 5xx, D90 and MT-602 as follows. It’s surprisingly clean and clear. Comfortable listening with volume knob at 8 o’clock. Not as transparent and detailed as the A90 but decent enough for the money. The modi and magni has a vail that I do not like. The D90 & MT-602 is warmer and cleaner than my Schiit stack. I do not have experience with the Schiit Vali (s) so I can not comment there. I will report back when I have a better break in period. Also I got a set of GE JAN tubes from Amazon that I like to try out. This is a hybrid tune amp and it’s also my first experience with any tubes amps so I would take what I say with a grain of salt. But over all, I think it’s cheap, cheerful and worth considering.

rutwikkillerTheses are 6J1 tubes. I only have the stock tubes and the GE JAN 6J1P tubes to test. Haven’t got enough burn in to provide anything substantial. From what I understand the 6J1 are not earth shattering acoustically. The single tube version might be a viable option if you want to open the tube rolling possibilities. One criticism: The power brick does not appear to be substantial. It works but Not quality like the Schiit’s. No issues thus far.

huy0819How "Tubey" is this compared to DV, and against other hybrid amplifiers like vali 2 ? Thanks.

matts19I do not have experience with DV or Vali2. I would say these are warm and clean but not so much tubey. You will find it lacking if you are searching for the tubey goodness.

SonikProjektI tried connecting my D90 > MT-602 > A90. It works. The MT-602 just boost the mids. To my ears, they add a little color at the cost of narrowing the sound stage. When want a little more color, I prefer the MT-602 over using the Schiit Loki. The Loki seem to raise the floor a bit.

huy0819I just started my tube journey but I find that there are not a lot of 6J1 tube selection out there. The GE JAN tubes has more detail than stock tubes, but nothing earth shattering. The MT-602 does boost the mids at the cost of slightly narrowing the soundstage a tiny bit. On the 5xx it's not really an issue since it's pretty wide. They sound better on my Senn 660s. To my ears they are great for vocals and more intimate listening. TLDR: If you want tubey holographic reverb goodness; you may want to look elsewhere.

huy0819Update: The stock tubes are meh. There are channel imbalance with my stock set of tubes. The matching set of GE JAN tubes I got from Amazon was significantly better. I highly recommend getting that set. The mids are boosted but the details are not recessed like the stock tubes. I don't listen to a lot of EDM but they definitely punch better than the A90. The A90 are clean, neutral and reference quality. But if you want a little bit of color and punch, the MT-602 is a cheap and cheerful contender. However, if you are seeking that punch and sparkle sound...be prepared to EQ. You will lose a bit sparkle in the highs.

huy0819Try the Loxjie P20. Bit more expensive but really sweet even with the stock tubes.
