What's a better *and* cheaper option for driving my Hifiman HE400i?
Inputs will be PC via USB, Nexus 5 via analogue (because no USB audio, AFAIK). I currently drive them only from my AV receivers. Despite owning a hybrid amp, I don't care about the tube so am in the market for hybrid or solid state.

AJCxZ0What was LG/Google thinking when they disabled USB audio on the Nexus? I've tried all sorts to get it to work with absolutely no luck. I tried with my E11, HP5 and my NFB. OTG cables make no difference. #frustration

StonezThanks for sharing your experience. Researching this seems to give no clear answer, but my impression is that there is no USB audio with stock Android 6 on the Nexus 5, but it used to work with Android 5 and may work with a custom ROM. I can live with using just an amp for the Nexus 5 and use the DAC with the PC, however that DAC+amp will be a FiiO Q1 for US$53.

StonezTry installing USB Audio Player PRO ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudioplayerpro ). Some Android installs don't have the necessary drivers for USB audio, and this installs them. After it's installed all audio programs, e.g. iHeart Radio, will work through the USB also.

TMBackstromIt would be pretty strange for a Nexus phone to not support USB OTG audio in it's stack, especially if it worked under Android 5.1 -- which is when most Android phones started fully supporting OTG audio. I would question the cable, and/or USB settings that can be changed under Developer Mode.
Although I have seen OTG audio output become sporadic and mostly non-functional after a device got briefly wet -- which was the only apparent damage.
My experience with Android 8, USB-C and OTG Audio has been piss-poor due to highly suspect excessive power drain. Google Support has been <insert string of expletives>.

CrashNBurnSince my original comment I purchased a FiiO Q1 and a couple of OTG cables including the $6 CableCreation (B01M5GZ3N0) USB Micro to Mirco and am happy to report that USB audio output just works on my Nexus 5.

AJCxZ0I thought the same thing at one point when I got my first first ultra portal DAC, Zorloo ZupeDAC. Worked on all my older Androids except my newest. I don't remember what version it was at the time, but the Nexus 5X was newer than all my others. On the older versions it would automatically switch to USB audio when it was plugged in. On the newer version I had to manually select USB audio every time.
