USB, is working fine now... I had too many cables connected to the back causing the low hum, now to figure out how to get the contents from that miniature disk... why a miniature disk?
So... is the only difference between this "B" variant TA-01B and the original xDuoo TA-01 (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/xduoo-ta-01-dac-amp) the DAC section? This "B" with dual Cirrus Logic CS4382A vs the dual Wolfson WM8470 in the original TA-01? How much does that affect the sound signature?
trellusThe difference is the manufacturer has updated the software making it functionally more stable and also supporting 32-bit audio. The USB section is also upgraded to XMOS U8. The DAC chip is CS4398 which is used in high-end systems like Marantz, Decware etc.
More positive info on the CS4398:
"if I only add that Wolfson has been acquired by Cirrus Logic a couple of years ago. So it is not anormal that eventually a Cirrus Logic DAC would take the place of a Wolfson DAC chip as an update. I wouldn’t bother too much about the DAC change. True The manufacturer should update the description of the product, but in the end the DAC swap isn’t sgnificant. This Cirrus 4398 DAC chip is also being used in highly regarded CD players from Marantz and other well recognized brands. Do not be alarmed." UPDATE: I got mine and found that the USB interface has also been upgraded to Type C.
ModernPerpectiveTechnologytubes are literally a nice way to burn your money, cause they burn out eventually and it takes some investment to find the ones that sound nice.
Which is why I'm saving you the trouble
Mullard/blackburn is amazing
amperex is amazing (my and a lot of people's favorite, and probably the most popular)
At the current price, I highly recommend using this thing as a headphones amp alone. I have the first gen TA-01 with an original amazing Wolfson chip, and I currently use it just as an amp/tube buffer inputting RCA analog from another (mighty) DSD DAC. It drives almost anything and adds that warm and sparkly tube bloom.
brainwavewarm and sparkly tube bloom?
and all from a $79 solid state chifi amp with gimmick tube buffer and nowhere near large enough transformer to make a discernible difference…amazing!
