Product Description
An upgraded version of the original xDuoo X10 DAP, the X10T uses the highly regarded Wolfson WM8805 DAC chip with support for DSD64 and up to 24-bit/192kHz PCM. It features two sets of coaxial signal outputs and an AES balanced coaxial output—a rarity for a portable audio player Read More

I realize that the description is for a DAP, and the WM8805 is referred to as a DAC, but the expectation that this device contains a DAC at all seems to be problematic. The X10T appears to "merely" be a storage device and front end for a separate DAC/amp. "Merely" is in quotes, because the WM8805 chip and implementing circuitry does (theoretically) an exceptionally good job of delivering a superior digital data stream to the DAC/amp. I haven't heard this device, but some of the functions described in association with the WM8805 are very similar to a device like the ifi Audio micro iUSB 3.0, a $400 signal and power conditioner. So, in theory this $179 front end can deliver whatever files you have to the appropriate DAC/amp jitter corrected, reclocked, in audiophile quality format, etc, through the AES balanced output. For the right consumer, the xDuoo X10T seems like a rather desirable device.

I understand this is strictly a transport. Then why is there a need to have a dac inside this thing if it's job is to feed the music digitally to another dac ?

OK, I'm going to take a guess. The AES balance out is two data lines, one for each channel, and a single ground. Since it is data and not analog, one ground will work. Crosstalk wouldn't be an issue. I'm guessing the effect is something like a phase splitter, as in the circuitry in a balanced amp where a single data line in is separated into two parallel circuits for amplification. But, I'm still not sure what the cable would look like...a 3-pin xlr on both ends? CFan anyone help me out?

I'm not sure I'd use this in an on-the-go combination, but I can see this in a small desktop setup. My household doesn't have computers at all the 3 major listening stations (bedroom and 2 offices), and this device has optical output, so... In addition, I don't know what AES balance is. How would that work?

There are many portable DAC/amps available, so this could be a decent value if you already have one of those. You won't be paying for a headphone amp section that you'll never use.

Considering they never fixed the issues with the xDuoo X10 I previously bought here and the lack of support from xDuoo itself, I would recommend buyers staying clear of any products they sell.

It's just an alternative SPDIF interface. The plug is identical to an XLR microphone jack. It is not a balanced headphone output.

Considering failure of DAP xDuoo X10 and total lack of responce, service and updates, I would skip this company products all together. This kind of attitude ahould fail without doubt or sympanthy. Two thumbs down!

It's not mentioned in the description, so please be aware that this is not the same as a standalone DAP. There is no headphone out, so you need to hook it up to an external DAC. This is strictly a digital transport.

I just opened the discussion section to ask about the lack of headphone out. A portable balanced DAC without any amplifier seems like a rather useless device.. Who's gonna carry their balanced amp with them in order to use this thing?!
