Would this be a good match, for running my Sony MDR 1A on a Huawei Mate 10 Pro smartphone? The volume is very very low on the Huawei and the sound misses some finesse.

Brimus71I hate to say it, but the finesse you're lacking is due to your headphones. No DAC/amp will cause them to produce a detailed sound. In that regard, I recommend the Sivga SV006 with Brainwavz MicroSuede Oval Pads, which perfectly compliment the headphones' detailed, V-shaped sound. Then as long as the Xduoo is compatible with your phone, you would have an impressive portable listening experience. Having said that, other portable DAC/amp combos exist that are smaller and/or more-detailed-sounding than the XD-05. On the cheaper side of things, the FiiO Q1 mkII is a fine option and would have more than enough power to drive the Sivgas to very loud levels.

mattrisHey mattris, thanks for your answer. The Sony MDR 1A sounds wonderful on my Marantz HD Dac1. And I already own four pairs of headphones. 2 pairs of the MDR, a V-Moda Crossfade and a new pair of Hifiman He 4XX (the best). The all sound great in their own way, but just not on a Huawei smartphone. I never even heard of Sivga and I don't think they are for sale here in Denmark. I also own a Fiio Alpen E17, but the batteri runs dry after only three hours, damn thing. ;-)

Solderboy23Yes, without mods, the Sivga SV006 (with Brainwavz MicroSuede Pads) are the best closed-backs I've heard at ~$100. What models would you recommend? Have you even listened to any Sivga headphones?

Brimus71Trust me, the SV006 with Suede pads will best your MDRs in basically every way. But if you don't want to get another pair of headphones at this time, I would recommend getting the Monoprice Monolith THX AAA Portable DAC/amp, which would make all your headphones sound better than you've ever heard.

mattrisI'm looking at the Monoprice Monolith THX AAA Portable DAC/amp. What lovely short name, eh?
Great specs all around. A 4000 mAh battery, nice. Do you own one yourself? If so, how do you compare it to the Fiio Q1 mkII?

Brimus71I haven't heard the Monoprice THX unit, but it has received unanimous praise. I have no doubt that it would sound significantly cleaner and more detailed than the FiiO (which, in my experience is better sounding than other ~$100 DAC/amps I've heard)... although a bit weak on power from its single-ended out. In than regard, the Monoprice is significantly better... and it also has an optical-in, LED, and configurable settings (incl. EQ).

Solderboy23Still waiting on your reply. In your opinion, what its the best closed-back headphone for 'portable' use? (The Sivga SV006 even comes with a semi-hard travel case.)
