This is a fantastic price for a fantastic amp. It's a real workhorse and you can't got wrong with it. It's great with the stock op-amp and even better with the Burson. I've had this since it came out and still use it every day.
One of the best dac/amp combos for the price range. Highly recommended. Drives most headphones in the market (it drives the Argon mkII, so...), excellent build quality, just awesome to hold and look at, perfect size, the analogue knob is super cool to use, buttery smooth with just the right amount of resistance, bright, informative display, and sounds fantastic. Who needs a $1k+ DAP when you can build an amazing system connecting this to an iPhone/iPad/Android device with a lossless streaming service like Apple Music. WARNING: the inputs on this thing are finicky as all heck, majority of cables out there don't seem to work, even the USB C charging port won't accept just any USB C charging cable. It's an adventure finding the right cables. For iPhone users you can connect using an Apple Lightning to USB A (female) camera adapter (use the one from Apple, anything else is risky) with the included OTG USB A (male) to USB C cable. Or just go wth this (I have it - it works): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08VH58HS9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
mensreaNice. Also a fellow Mk2 Argon owner and just bought this DAC/Amp. Is your nickname a reference to a scene in the movie "See no evil, hear no evil " by any chance?
PastafarianLemurWhat crap. No wonder mine doesn’t work. First off mine didn’t even come with a lightning to usb2 interconnect, and now I have to order another interconnect?
what a suck ass deal
I purchased this when they recently had it up for sale. I have a Sennheiser Game One headset that I currently have but would like to get a pair of headphones to pair to this device and sound better than what I have already. Would like some suggestions. Willing to spend up to 300. Would love to hear your suggestions. I would prefer to have Over the Ear headphones.
Kept it for a while and gave away, sound is flat lacks excitement and dynamics, people just do not know how to implement Akai DACs. They would do great if would imitate Centrance. Please do not think I am against XDOO, it is good company, just uneven quality. I have xDuoo X10T II Turntable and enjoy it very much. XDOO complectation with cables is very good too.
3georgia16Not worth the upgrade. If you can even call it that. It’s pricier but can’t say it’s better in any discernible way. I mean the output power is the same wth. Too bad, I was waiting for the balanced but it looks like a poorly implemented dud.
Say I would like to use this with my PC38X, or KPH30i, or wathever combo earphone/mic out there (mobile and/or online meeting headset with a single 3,5mm combo jack with audio-out and mic-in), would the headset mic work? As a mobile device, I feel like it should allow for mic input.
Thanks for your reply. I am pretty new to this hobby and I was trying to find a good "do it all device" so I can get into the hobby, and then get down the rabbit hole to get better perfomance. But since my post I have realised that I was looking for a unicorn device. The PC38x works just fine with a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle DAC (including the mic, yeah!). I also decided to try out the Topping MX3 dac/amp for my headphones (Phillips Fidelio X2HR) and bookshelf speakers (the MX3 is a pretty versatile entry level device) . I am mostly satisfied for now. I think I want at least 3 other headpones, for different music genres, not sure yet wich ones. I was thinking Meze 99 noirs for bassier stuff, Sennheiser HD6xx seems to be a must, and maybe an AKG K361 BT for an on the go headset. I will probably end-up trying better amps at some point, for now I am happy with the MX3. I am not even talking about the bookshelf speaker dilemma (I want to try some ELAC Debut reference DBR62, but I am still not convinced to pull the trigger on them, I would like to hear them first). This hobby gets expensive pretty fast, yet I am always looking for a device that would give me a different experience. I would not say better, but different seems appropriate.

You can say that again, haha. I'm super happy with my XD05 Plus, but am always attracted to the new shiny things. Triple the price for a balance topping 30 pro stack? Hmmm...
If you're looking for a do-it-all for desktop it looks like Schiit just refreshed their Hel amp. It has a separate headphone out and mic in, and even gives you gain control on the mic in which is pretty cool. Would work with the PC38X and has a pre amp output for powered monitors. Not particularly portable though but neither is the mx3
