legaceezI contacted them on the 2nd, and still have yet to receive an actual response. I did get an automated email that it will take them 5-7 business days to respond, which gives them until the 10th at the latest. So I'm waiting until then before reaching out again. Both times the unit was correct according to the package slip, but that package slip did not match up with what I had ordered. The first time this happened was at the beginning of the pandemic, and they responded the very next day with two options: keep the unit and they'll give me a partial refund or send it back for a full refund. I eventually chose the full refund, hoping this would come back on drop and it would be a one-time issue, and they emailed me a shipping label. I don't have a printer at home, and I requested that the shipping label be mailed to me, and that request was denied. So that's something to keep in mind. This time around, I'm not sure which option I will choose. It's still not easy for me to get to a printer, and I'm not sure if I will actually be able to get the black one from here. Reading some of the discussion, it looks like some people have been successful in getting the black one, so I don't know.

BerticusThanks for your thorough response! In my case my order receipt email and page said black but my packing slip said silver. I'm not sure where the mix-up happened but hopefully they can fix it for me. Having the black BT module with the silver color is really bothering me!! They messed up a previous order of mines too from xDuoo. Sent me the wrong power plug. I'm beginning to think the issue is with xDuoo but we'll see what happens.

legaceezI just got a silver unit (box also said silver) when I ordered the black one – the black BT module on silver body is starting to get to me too. I'm having QC issues with mine I'm considering returning it.

rudbearWhat QC issues are you experiencing? I wonder if I might have the same. I do notice one thing that is annoying but don't know if it's by design. There is no charge light on both devices so I have to guess when they are fully charged or turn them on/connect them.

legaceezMy main QC complaints are:
  • The main board rattles in the enclosure at the slightest movement
  • I can tap the top of it when it's sitting on a desk and it rattles like there are screws missing
  • It makes rattle noises when you pick it up and turn it over
  • The unit doesn't charge consistently (never reaches 100% charge, the charge light stays on the whole time, the animation stops every so often, etc.)
  • The I/O is slightly misaligned with the housing
  • The side buttons are have varying (inconsistent) resistance making it easier to change input than filter.
  • There was uneven anodization or wear on the surface out of the box
I get a red LED charge light on the back when it is charging (and the OLED screen will animate when charging – it randomly stops animating or charging or both so I'm not confident using it as a desktop unit much less mobile).

rudbearDamn that might mean mines is defective because the light and animation doesn't happen when I plug my unit in to charge. I'm not even sure it's charging. I'll have to test it out by depleting the battery. Thanks for the heads up on what to look for!

legaceezI would make sure you're using the default cables and try various power sources (I had the most luck with a power-strip charging hub and USB PD port. Per page 8/10 in the user manual/quick start guide, it's supposed to turn on for 15 seconds and then blink but mine stays solid and only comes on when I unplug and plug the cable. I am really interested to know when Drop customer support will get back to me about my issues.

rudbearSo via your suggestion I used their USB-C cable, lo and behold it charges now but with the same issue you are having. The LED light comes on and stays on and boy it's taking a REALLY long time to charge. 3 hours now and it doesn't seem to have gone up. So what's the point of a "universal" standard if only certain cables work? Best case scenario this was a bad batch that they rushed out for the order, worse case is they purposely offloaded a bad batch on us. I wonder which it is...

legaceezI'm a bit frustrated that it seems support hasn't gotten back to anyone, they're running a second round to ship even more units right in the window so I feel I have to publish my review early. It is starting to look like the manufacturer is dumping all their old stock before releasing a new version and DROP is purposefully ignoring all customer service issues in hopes that we'll buy a replacement unit and dump even more stock.

Miguel315I feel like we almost have a case for bait and switching. I don't think anyone that ordered the black one actually got it and it almost seems like they knowingly did it. What do you guys think?

legaceezI went online and ordered a black with price match from apos.audio. They have black. It should get here in 5 days. This amp is so versatile and powerful that it's good to know I'll have a backup if needed. The bluetooth module is outstanding. I'm having a hard time noticing any sonic difference between blue tooth and usb. I'm using it with my he4xx's.

rudbearMine acts the same way with the animation stopping but it resumes when data resumes on the usb input (sound input resumes). Also, let me add that I'm not using their cables for power and it's working just fine. My unit also makes a rattling noise when tapped lightly from the top of the unit but it's not a big deal to me. This thing drives my he4xx's admirably and I'm loving the sound.

legaceezJust got silver when I requested black. Very disappointed. Black Bluetooth module looks goofy on a silver case. Am in New Zealand so i'm just going to accept it, but be warned.

Miguel315I finally got a return label from DROP support and bought a black one elsewhere. The black one has some of the same issues (the rattle mostly) but the unit I got definitely had additional challenges I mostly like it for the BT streamer, but it has pretty decent sound for most all my headphones. I still have the cable issues with mine. I tend to use it with Grados a lot (kind of a waste of the power output potential) just because of the bass boost (helps the weak Grado bass) and portability factor. All in all, great sound for the price, absolutely unacceptable customer experience, quality control, and poor feature implementation.

rudbearI bought a black one from another vendor along with BT Module. Interestingly the Black one shipped with a BT module that had a silver volume cover/protector and the silver one shipped with a Black cover/protector. So now I have matching volume covers for both. I'm hanging on to both of them. I need power for my he4xx and this works well.

Miguel315UPDATE: Customer support did respond after a couple of weeks. They took care of the issue. I still have 2 units and am very happy with both of them, one silver and one black.

legaceezSo apparently this is a recurring theme. Mine was just delivered, ordered black and received silver. Seems like so many people are having this issue it might be intentional. If they had offered a discount for the silver model I may have gone that route.
