I set the stereo up last night and it's working fine. I upgraded as I needed HDCP 2.2 support and my previous unit (also a Yamaha) didn't support it. 4K video is passing through nicely and I haven't run into any issues so far with it being a refurb unit. My only disappointment is that there is already an identical drop running on the same unit for $100 less than I paid last week.

aschaeferThis sucks man I just got mine too and would've rather paid $100 less for that one. Note that it's not identical, that drop is for the 5810 model whereas we got the 7810. But the differences are pretty minimal.. doesn't look to me like 7810 is worth an extra $100 from this comparison: http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/tsr/10686/9491

aschaeferOk, I did a little research of my own, by reading the owners manuals of both receivers. Our 7810 does offer some significant advantages. One is that it has preamp outputs, so you can use a separate amp or either powered or passive speakers (I think). Another is that it has 9 speaker outputs (but still only 7 amps), so you can use presence speakers in both the front and the back. There are 2 amps that handle all 4 presence channels, and the amp switches back and forth depending on whether the situation requires front presence or rear presence. The 5810 only has front presence. Also the 7810 has more power with an extra 15 watts on every channel. And the 7810 allows you to use 4 ohm front speakers but the 5810 doesn't. I'm sure there's more that I missed, since I didn't read everything.
These advantages might not be worth $100 (I'd still rather have the 5810 for 250), but at least we get something extra.
