I'm a newbie - film editor - trying to set up my editing station with better sound. Assuming I buy two of these and a sub-woofer, what do I plug them all into - to get to my Mac Pro for accurate sound output? Thanks!

IndeedYou will need a USB/Firewire audio interface - it's essentially an external sound card that you will use XLR-to-TRS cables to connect the speakers. If you add the yamaha sub to the mix, you will route the cables from the speakers into the sub and then cables from the sub to the back of your audio interface. I'd suggest getting a dual channel USB audio interface from either Steinberg, Focusrite or M-Audio. They will all be right around or just over $100 and will all have two microphone/instrument inputs and the knob to control the volume on the front and two 1/4inch TRS outputs on the back for the speakers (along with a few other outputs like USB/Firewire). Wiring it all up is not difficult or complicated at all and there will be detailed info in the manual for the speakers - you could also find studio monitor wiring diagrams on google images if you need a visual reference.
As far as interfaces go, if I were you, I would get either the Steinberg UR22 or the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Both are good quality and will have all of the inputs and outputs you'll need and they will both be $100-$150 depending on where you get them. Some interfaces are "class compliant" which means they don't require any software drivers to operate, others will require that you download the most recent driver (which may need to be done from time to time when upgrading your computer's operating system) from the manufacturer's site. It's really not hard at all to get an interface and monitors set up and once they're set up, the system requires virtually zero maintenance.
Enjoy.

IndeedNo problem at all. I was once very new to the way this stuff works as well so I'm happy to give pointers and advice to people who need it.

IndeedYou may not need the sub-woofer. In any case, your Mac Pro should output to a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) device (check out Schiit Audio). The two speakers should plug into the DAC.
