Wow. Wish I had waited on my Yamaha HS5's I purchased a year ago for $200 each. I would have definitely paid the extra $60 for the 8 inch subs. =( I do recommend adding a sub to your reference monitors. I picked up a Monoprice sub for $200. Had to have XLR. What I like about Yamaha's HS series of monitors is that I feel that what you hear from them while recording will be nearly identical once you play your recording on other equipment. I have my HS5's and sub bouncing through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4. Not that it matters but I've always loved Yamaha's symbol of 3 tuning forks crossed. Also the Yamaha symbol on these speakers lights up with a white glow once powered on. It's rather subtle and not distracting at all.
