I've been playing with my Firestorm for a few months now, and it has gotten more responsive as I've played with it. I have switched to polyester strings (Expert strings from yoyoexpert.com) and it gets more and more responsive. Other than pressing down the response O-rings, or swapping them for silicone, what can I do?

and as an additional note, adding a small amount of thick lube can make this responsive. Some people point to 3-in-1 machine oil or petroleum jelly as a good substitutes for thick yoyo lube.

I just received my Firestorm. Several places on the package say "responsive play" but the drop was clearly for an unresponsive edition. Is the packaging wrong or did I get the wrong product?
tjkirchThis just a case of incorrect packaging. Yomega realized that they were shipped some Firestorms with the wrong bearings and offered them to us, since they thought the community would be into them. Thus, the "Unresponsive Edition" was born. They didn't repackage them, but the yoyos inside should definitely be unresponsive.

cameronbachmanThis is correct, I've opened mine and it is unresponsive. They do this by cleaning/not lubing/using thinner lube on the bearing. The setup, otherwise, is exactly the same as the stock package. Still the same size bearing and same brake pads. Buyers can improve unresponsive performance by installing a full size-C bearing(these come with half-C-size bearings), and/or switching the pads for silicone pads(can be bought or made.)(also, YoYoJam sells the bearings and pads as a kit intended for the YYJ Classic yoyo) In fact, it would have been cool if they had done this beforehand, but it's still a decent price, so I don't really mind changing these parts myself.

sent a support mail about this, but figured i might toss it in here as well, have you guys forgotten to add the option for colors? I only saw the option to change quantity :o (although it might just be me being silly and/or blind >>')
trunks55You're definitely right!
We updated the options to display correctly and all orders that got submitted without choosing a color are defaulted to Red/Neon. You can go to your profile's transactions page to adjust your preference.

So this would be a proper good starting yoyo?

this is just a random guide I grabbed. You can also practice binding with responsive kits, but in my experience doing binds this way are much less forgiving than binding on an unresponsive yoyo.

MattyStixxIMO, this would be a fine way to start, but you would have to learn to "bind" fairly early. An easy way to suplement this, would be to buy a cheap yoyo, like from a Walmart. Something like a "Duncan Proyo" or a "Duncan Butterfly" just to learn the good straight throw. That will make learning to bind much much easier. The yoyo community's favorite starter yoyo is the "YoYo Jam Classic." So you can look that up if you want a quality responsive yoyo to start on (no "bind" required) instead of this one. The problem is that it is already so cheap($10) that you probably wouldn't see it here on massdrop.
