Kanto has been pushing these as a "last chance" before discontinued for what? 6+ months? At least their off the website, which means this probably is the last of the last. Interestingly, their much touted successor to the Yumi is nowhere to be seen...

My message to the community that these are being discontinued was written during the last drop about 2 months ago, not sure where that 6+ number came from. The YU6 which is the successor to the YUMI and YU5 came out about a month ago. http://www.kantoliving.com/product/yu6/

Ugh a new model?!
Damn, now I need the YU6's.
EDIT: I saw an added feature was a built in phono preamp. Pretty rad!

I will say I am glad I got both the YUMI's and and the YU2's and YU5's, as the class A/B amplifier really did sonically set them apart from the others. Not saying it is better or worse, for my listening I usually just enjoyed the YUMI's the most. On the other hand the YU5's got noticeably louder!

I have the YU3's, which I bought in December. They were defective out of the box but I will give major props to Kanto for their great customer support.
Problem with anything above the YU3's in physical size is that they become a challenge for use as a desktop type system without resorting to speaker stands, etc.
What I don't understand is why they produce so many color variations (some that obviously do not sell well, like the gloss versions) while the bamboo models are rarer than Unicornite and demand crazy markups on eBay, etc.

Glad we were able to help you out! We produce a bunch of color variations so our customers can match their setups. Most manufacturers that make powered speakers stick with two or three options but we know it's often not enough if you're trying to achieve a specific look. The YUMI and YU2 are the only speakers that had bamboo cabinets and the YUMI was only a limited run as we starting seeing some cabinets discolor over time. We might bring back bamboo with our YU4 and YU6 but we'd have to make sure all the kinks are worked out.
