DawnGlare (http://mtg.dawnglare.com/?p=sets) analyzes the expected value of a box of Zendikar to be less than $300. Given that we're headed back to Zendikar in September, I expect many of the more expensive hits (particularly the fetches) to come down in cost fairly rapidly once spoiler season starts. I doubt you'll see any more than $250 of value per box here...

gaiaquasarI was thinking the same thing.... with Battle for Zendikar a few months away. The value of a lot of these will go down if reprinted... therefore not warranting the 3x markup from MSRP

DarkDrakonisMsrp means nothing for out of print sealed product. As much as I love zendikar, it's hard to justify buying a box until I see battle of zendikar reprints.

ShadowhealsIt does, because I sometimes buy out of print boxes for less than half MSRP. Just depends if seller is gouging or trying to get others to bring price up. Just because you see for sell at $520, doesn't mean they are actually selling any. I have gotten some sweet deals from LCS when they were trying to get rid of old stock to make room for new.

Shadowhealstrue.. im just making the point that the value of this box could go down tremendously once the new Zendikar set drops. :)

kmccormickYou point to me where I can find a zendikar box for half msrp. Dragon maze booster boxes, yeah you can easily get them for 70$ or so..... I'll buy a metric ton of zendikar at 144$ if it was possible. Oh wait, you can't because it doesn't exist. Zendikar packs cost roughly 20$ a pack( give or take a few dollars). I most of my old packs from a store in NH that has an entire section dedicated to old out of print packs. 500$ is a fair price point. It's inline with everything I have seen/bought for the last 8+ months.

ShadowhealsIf you think this is a fair price point you have a very twisted concept of value. If you buy a box for $500 on average the cards that you get in a box will be worth HALF of what you paid for it. It should definitely cost more than MSRP. Even something like $300 or $350 would make sense. But $500 is much too high.

shdwassassin128Since when do you ever get equal value out of a sealed box. You have the first 2 weeks after the release to cash in and possibly get even out of it. You're paying 500$ for a few reasons. It's out of print, it was a great set, fun set to draft, it has modern staples(fetches) ohh and it has full art lands(which everyone likes/wants) add in the fact foils aren't factored into the EV of a bo. Also if it is an "A" printing run, you get the chance of the hidden treasures(I realize we don't know if it is or isn't). I know it's worth about 500 because I've seen eBay auctions end up around the price point and I know a game store that buys them around that price.
