Holy cow! I love this knife. And Rexford's in general. If I didn't just buy three 0801Ti's for my kids (Christmas). And have a relatively fresh ano job on my original 0801. I'ma love my ZT's 😍🤪

OmniseedThe 0804 is a rock solid model. Though I will say that mine has not seen any heavy use. Not because I don't think it could handle it, but just because I have many less "pretty" models.

BflyingI didn’t realize it was the 0561, I thought it had a black handle. I have thirteen ZT’s and I don’t think I could part with any of them either. : ). I’ll probably be getting the ZT 0393 and the ZT 0609 as well. All I have to do is stop buying every knife that drops on this website! : )

BflyingYou probably know a lot about ZT’s...have you ever seen 0560’s with the ELMAX printed on the knife as EL MAX, with a space between the EL and the MAX? Are they legit? Also, which do you prefer, the 0561 or the 0562?

DougFLA123I have never seen a legit knife, ZT or otherwise, printed with EL MAX (with space). Not saying it couldn't happen, just never seen it. But does sound VERY fishy. When I get off work, I'll check out all my Elmax's to verify my memory. It would be worth checking directly with ZT if it's a purchase you are considering. ZT's are very heavily counterfeited. Some are close enough to even fool a knife pro...from pics. In person there are usually a few more "tells" to spot. Not to mention that a fraudster can also post images of legit product, but then ship something different.
I like both of those models (0561 and 0562), but they are quite different from one another. In my life (mostly in an office), I much prefer the 0562CF as an EDC. But if I worked in construction or similar, I'd definitely be picking up a 0560/0561. The jimping on my 0561 is quite harsh. Both on finger when flipping, and on pocket while carrying. It could be worked on, but since it's not my current EDC, I decided to keep it closer to factory. The 0562 is a bit smaller, and much more refined as an edc.

BflyingThanks a lot. I emailed ZT and will let you know what they say. I love the 0562CF and the 0770CF. I wish the 0770‘s weren’t spring assisted. I know you can de-assist them, but without the bearings, at least from the videos I’ve seen, it doesn’t fly out like the other manual ZT’s on bearings. Did you de-assist yours?

BflyingHere’s the response I got from Kai USA: “We did in fact have a run of the ZT0560, very early on in its production that were lasered the way you are describing, with the space between El Max. All of our knives are laser engraved by individuals so there is always the possibility of human error.  You will also see differences over the life of our models in what we laser on the blades and the positioning, which sometimes only comes down to a different person working that line that day.  We hope that helps!”

BflyingDoes your 0561 have a steel lockbar insert? I have a 0560BW that has a lockbar insert and it opens and closes great. I also have a 0560 that does not have a steel lockbar insert, and it sticks pretty bad when it’s opened. It takes quite an effort to close it. Do you know if KAI USA ZT will fix this by adding a steel lockbar insert to the lockbar? That’s what I read. Does your 0561 stick?

DougFLA123Mine does not have the lockbar insert, nor does it stick. I'm not sure what ZT would say about it. I do have a Kizer without an insert that did stick for a while. I tried all the usual tricks like coating with pencil lead. Not sure if they were what did the trick, or just the thousands of flips that I ended up putting on it. 😁 Turned out to be my favorite fidget flipper.

BflyingI did coat the tang of the blade with a sharpie and it started flipping much better. Now that the sharpie has worn off, it’s still flipping really well. Maybe all it needed was a bunch of flips. I did buy it “new” on eBay, which I doubted of course, but when it arrived, it did look very, very good...like new. Maybe it actually is new or very close to being new and just hadn’t been flipped much, because it is getting better and better as I play with it. Very relieved. I love the blade shape of the 0560, the 0562 and the 0566.

DougFLA123The 0566 was my boy's first ZT. It has gone on a bunch of scout overnighters, and been a little abused. And has held up very well. But it's not Ti, so no stick issue with that one. My 0561 was my second ZT, and first knife on bearings, so needless to say, it's got a LOT of flips on it. So if it was going to develop a stick, it would have a long time ago.

DougFLA123I have not. But I would suspect that it would be done similar to new knives coming off the line. I have found it rewarding to sharpen my own. And with that, end up with results far better than any rushed factory job. For setting the edge, I use a KME system.

DougFLA123The factory angles usually vary because they are done on a belt. So, it depends. If the bevels are relatively even, I'll just coat with sharpie, and try to match the existing angle, whatever it may be. That way you don't have to remove any more metal than necessary. The key is making sure you get apexed.
If the edge requires more extensive work to make it right, I usually shoot for 18-19 degrees. But I'm a sucker for perfectly even bevels, so I end up resetting a high percentage of my knives.

DougFLA123Without seeing the pics, it's really hard to say. If an edge is in total disarray, I would start with my 100 grit gold diamond stone from KME. If it just needs to be cleaned up a little, I start on a 300 diamond. And remember that the angles as measured on your sharpening device will vary greatly based on the size of blade, and how and where it's clamped. If you have a digital angle cube, use that to setup. If not, the free downloadable level apps work pretty well on a phone. That's what I use.

BflyingI started with 400 grit, followed by 600, 800, and 1000. It’s done a good job with the nicks and it has made the knife sharper than it was when I first received it. That is such a great point you made, that the angles as measured on the sharpening device will vary greatly based on the size of blade, and how and where it's clamped. That’s what I was wondering, and then you just said it! I do have a digital angle gauge, that I’ve never used of course, so I’m going to read the instructions and see if there’s a video on how to use it. This is the first time I’ve ever used my WE Gen 3 Pro, and I didn’t think my “practice blade” would be on a ZT 0560. I’m a bit of a perfectionist so I’m worried that I’m going to make my knife worse, but I’m too anxious and impatient to practice on a less expensive knife. I want this knife done now! : ) Actually it’s coming along pretty well.

DougFLA123Sounds like our personalities are a lot alike. I am way too impatient and ADD when I've made my mind up to do something. Which is why my first ano test was also on a ZT. :D The WE is an amazing system. I would of liked to have that one, but since I had already purchased multiple others at the time of consideration, I opted for the less expensive KME. Which I'm happy to say that I'm very pleased with. It's been perfect for me. I can even take it off the stand, and work a blade on the couch or even in bed watching tv.

DougFLA123I really like it. I was more intrigued by the flipper tab, than convinced that it was necessary, or even usable. But happy to say, it's not only fun to fidget with, but works great. Probably the biggest thing about the SLT is that it lets the knife ride in pocket without the traditional flipper tab "pocket pecker" hammering on everything. If you've ever put a phone in the same pocket as a knife with big flipper tab, you probably know it can be murder on it. I can't count how many Zagg glass screen protectors I've replaced because the edges look like someone ice picked it to death.
I was originally not super excited about the blade shape either until I got it. Turned out to be perfect for my EDC needs. Before ordering, I had wished that my first GTC design with spring tab would have a more traditional blade shape. But then that wouldn't have really been much of a real GTC experience. 😁 And can now say that I have absolutely no regrets. Definitely a stellar package.
Like so many ZT models that we've seen, Zero Tolerance gives us Average Joe's the chance to experience amazing custom makers and designs, at custom maker quality.....And still be able to buy food and pay the gas bill afterwards. 😂 Unfortunately, I now keep looking at Gustavo's custom pieces. Of course acting on a custom knife impulse, would also require a change in my Facebook relationship status. 😬🙀 So, my advice would be to stay affordable for now, and stick with the amazing ZT's for designer maker sampling.
And because EVERY SINGLE THREAD should have more pics, here's today's carry. 😃💥😎

DougFLA123This Smith is the Performance Center PC1911, 4.25” Round Butt version. Definitely one of my favorites. It’s been on my hip almost everyday since purchase. I’m in Utah, so can open, but usually conceal. Although, more often than not I practice what I call "lazy concealment". OWB in my own holster, and untucked shirt. So technically, it's concealed, but anyone really looking can see it.
After over 20 years of deep concealment worried about others seeing, I decided to do some experimentation. Conclusion, most people are so wrapped up in themselves, that you almost need to wear a neon CCW sign before anyone (besides Leo's, or someone specifically looking for weapons), see through even the most rudimentary conceal cover. So now days it's all about comfort (within the law anyway).

ZaraSpookIf the knife you are referring in the pic just above on the Python skin, it's the ZT0055, with the Massdrop Gent below it.
That little North American Mini has been fun for the whole fam. I took off the bayonet, but left the laser on. When it was the new toy in the house, we probably put close to 1000 rounds through it. I picked up a little .22 trap from Walmart, and we did a bunch of basement shooting.
Not too long ago, I discovered powderless 22 ammo. They have very light bullets, powered only by the primer. They gave ZERO recoil, and are quieter than most BB guns. They add a new dimension to indoor plinking, or to train new shooters.

Here is the Primer Only ammo mentioned above. It should go without saying, but you should know that this kind of thing is not going to cycle an auto. You'd want to stick with wheel guns and single shots with this kind of ammo.

And since we're on this topic, my wife's favorite shooter (for plinking or target), is my Ruger LCR 22, shooting 22 Short. They are not quite as "air soft" as the primer only rounds, but still is void of anything that could make a new shooter flinch. So absolutely perfect for transitional training.

DougFLA123I now have one experience with ZT's re-sharpening. I recently sent a knife in for a repair, and received it back today. They did a courtesy sharpen, and it is fantastic. Better than just about every new ZT I've pulled out of the box. The bevels are as even side to side as I'd put them if I were to reset it myself.

BflyingOh wow, I’m kind of in shock. I watched a video of KAI sharpening a ZT on a belt, and it terrified me! I thought no way am I sending my beauty’s to them to sharpen!
I sent a 0560 in a couple of weeks ago that had incredibly bad lockbar stick (it was one with no steel lockbar insert) and I wrote on a piece of paper, “Please do not sharpen”, because of the video of them sharpening a ZT on what looked like a belt sander! Who knew?!?
Btw, they did a fantastic job with the sticky lockbar. They must have re-carbidized it or something! The knife went from almost being unable to close it once it was opened, to opening and closing as smooth as silk! Great job by them!

DougFLA123Mine was a decent job. Clean and even so acceptably sharp. But it was a very obtuse angle. I haven't mounted it to check, but I'd guess somewhere around, or even a bit north of 25 degrees. Depending on the knife of course, so it may vary. But my favorite setting is around 17-18 degrees.
The other day, I'd did run into the most obtuse edge that I've ever personally worked on. Was on my WE Eschaton. Read in at 30 degrees, and the very top setting of my KME. Not knowing if M390 could be brittle on a very fine edge and thin tip, I only took it down a point or two at a time. I think I stopped around 26-27. Now that I've used it a little more, I think I'll soon take it down to 22-23.

DougFLA123I was perusing comments because of the new drop on the 801 and noticed (10 weeks ago) you mentioned picking up the 0393 and the 0609.
I was literally waiting for the 0393 at the knife shop the day it was released, and it was everything I dreamed it would be. I love it, I love it so much I bought the sprint run model despite its lower quality blade steel / design, and tricked both knives out w/ what few pieces of over-priced Hinderer hardware will fit.
Anyway, I really love the 0393. The size, shape, weight, look, action, materials, blade steel / size / shape / grind--all exactly what I prefer. It's nearly my "platonic ideal" of a knife, so to speak.
W/ that in mind, my question is: did you pick up the 0609, and if so, what do you think; especially what do you think that someone who loves the 0393 would like, or dislike, about the 0609? I know it's smaller, but smaller is ok if well-designed (I'm very happy with my month-old 0450CF).
Thanks for any info you have. Usually, I'd just go to either of my local authorized ZT dealers and handle one, but both dealers are out of stock. Were it any knife maker besides ZT (or Microtech or Pro-Tech), I wouldn't even consider buying w/o handling first. But Id feel comfortable taking the leap on a 0609 if I felt sure there was enough handle for me to grip.
Oh yeah, also might as well ask: what's your opinion of this 801? $159 is about $10 cheaper than the BladeHQ sale price, but it's also the cost of the forthcoming Paramilitary 3 w/ CPM M4 blade steel. Or its about the total of layaway payments I still owe on a Signature Series Socom Elite folder...It's like you said about probably buying a knife if you can stop buying every one on MD for a minute.

HatuletohI haven’t purchased the 0393 or the 0609 yet. I really like the blade shape of both a lot. I have a knife guy that I usually buy from and he hasn’t gotten any in yet. I think the smaller online shops are the last ones to get these knives in stock. I like both versions of the 0393 too. I kind of wish the sprint run came in a satin CPM-20CV blade and a bronze/black handle. It’s a real toss up as to which I like better between the 0609 and the 0393. I have never had the opportunity to handle any ZT knife before I purchased it but have never been disappointed by any of their knives that I’ve received. I’m sure the 0609 is fantastic. Here’s a pretty good video review of it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5jY3CQKxxk
I like the 0801BW. I like the way ZT does their black stonewash. The price seems only so-so. When Massdrop beats BladeHQ by only $10, I question whether it’s worth the wait to buy it here.

BflyingHave you purchased the ZT 0609 yet? I have and it’s beautiful! Do you think they’re ever going to come out with that special tool for the pivot? They’re really taking their time.

HatuletohI purchased the ZT 0609 and the ZT 0393 recently, and I have to say I like the 0609 better. It seems like a more elegant knife to me. Did you end up buying the 0609? Have you heard or seen anything about that special tool for the pivot?

DougFLA123I came very close to buying the 0609 and 0393. But when I went to finalize the order, I couldn't find my wallet. Searched for it for days, then started the process of cancelling/replacing everything. What a nightmare. Nine credit cards (personal and corporate), ccw's from multiple states, DL, about $500-$600 in cash, and other sundries.
Still working on a few odds and ends. So will be a little more time before I'm back to normal (normal knife hoarding anyway 😁).
I'm sure the tool will come along at some point. But would not be surprised to see the timeframe far exceed their own "estimates". Maybe even price also. Sales will be mostly from the KnifeNut community which is a very small segment of overall buyers.

BflyingOMG, losing your wallet...that sucks! What a nightmare! I guess you have/had much bigger problems than knives and pivot tools! 🙂 I’m glad things are getting back to normal for you!
