MipsetThis review for a PBT doubleshot keycap. They're both shiny and they're both keycaps, but they're not the same. These caps are zinc, not a synthetically engineered polymer.

ShivavishnuYeah, I have the one that Linus reviewed. They were cheap like 20 bucks but when i got them they felt and look very fake. The plastic tends to leave a gloss and oily pingerprint while it felt a bit uncomfortable to use compared to my old matte keykaps.

JustANobodyI'm sure these will be a much higher feel in build quality, than the ones you previously purchased, because they're zinc. However, if you look up people who've reviewed zinc keys a few months after heavy use - they're not very happy with the appearance. They seem to show rub marks on heavy used keys. They look and feel amazing when they're new, but they don't hold up very well with wear & tear.

prospektBeauty is in the eye of the beholder. The durability issue is what really gets me off the boat. I would also prefer if they were backlit. A double shot method with the outer layer being zinc would be pretty cool. The optional included backlit WASD in this drop are completely polymers.

Silent Holy Panda X?
I ordered some Holy Panda X switches, and I fell in love with them. They are a joy to type on. There's just one problem. The place that I use my keyboard to type the most is obviously at work, which is a problem if I want to use the Holy Panda X in the office around a whole bunch of people. I really don't want to torture my coworkers with the clack of these switches. I'd rather they still liked me. The good news is that, for me, the actuation of the Holy Panda X is the best part. I could take or leave the sound it makes; even if it is fantastic. Which leads me to my conundrum: is there another "silent" switch that feels similar to the Holy Panda X? Is there a piece I can remove from the Holy Panda X that would allow me to make them silent? Or am I going to have to wait and see if Drop will drop a Silent Holy Panda X for the in-office mech community?

It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?).
