I'm in the drop! Will my Onkyo DP-X1 do the ZMF's justice or do I need to be shopping?

MPerdue63Make sure to email me a week or two after the drop is over and I'll get you a 2.5mm balanced cable for the Vibro MK II, you'll definitely want that with the Onkyo. Great unit btw I really need to get one of those, it's absolutely fantastic.

MPerdue63Zach (@ZMFheadphones) can best answer how much power they need, but I think you'd definitely benefit from an external amp. I've noticed planars (especially this one) sound better with more power as the drivers are better controlled.

MPerdue63NP. Just make sure to look at a headphone's sensitivity (if it's listed) as the Ohm rating isn't always indicative of how easily it's driven.

ZMFheadphonesDoes that mean if I choose the XLR cable that the headphones would work in balanced mode with my single XLR 4-pin female adapter to Pono Player or does the XLR option terminate in dual 4-pin XLR connections? If so, does that still mean the headphone would work in balanced mode?

DeanWYes 4 pin female to pono would work fine as you'll get a 4 pin male XLR cable. It will not be a dual 3 pin. So yes, it will work with your pono in balanced mode.

ZMFheadphonesThanks! Last question, but by the time I read a response it might be too late. I have to take that chance though. Do you think using a Pono Player in balanced mode is enough to drive these headphones? I'm reading they need a bit more power.

ZMFheadphonesHey Zach,
I joined the drop because of my inability to control myself over such good looking cans. My question to you is, since you are the maker of these, what DAC/AMP combo would you recommend to make this pair of cans justice? I would appreciate something that doesn't exceed 200 USD if possible.
Also, the cable in the description image, is the one ending in the 1/8 to 1/4 adapter? sorry for the stupid question, i'm kind of a noob... And do we get a second cable included in the box? or we just get the one?
Thanks!

MPerdue63I've got a DP-X1. On balanced (not ACG) with high gain, they drive my LCD2 and HD800 to painful volume levels if desired. The DP-X1 has plenty of power for planars -- I wouldn't worry about absolutely needing an external amp. Most people saying otherwise probably don't have the DP-X1 or haven't ever actually tried the combination. The DP-X1 is solid.

sq3rjickGlad to hear it! I'm still trying to figure out all the settings on the DP-X1, impressed so far.
