I've been using 2 of these to make lunches for about 2 months now, and they definitely get the job done well. Typically configuration is:
  • Bottom bowl: Oatmeal or Soup. If it's an oatmeal day, I make up a single packet of instant oatmeal for each box. For Soup days, I split a can of soup between the two containers.
  • Second bowl: leftovers/vegetables. I'll usually do one of those "steam in bag" frozen vegetable deals, split between both boxes, and add in whatever leftovers we have to round things out. I found silicone molds of different types that help partition the containers.
  • Third bowl: Salad. I'll typically make up one of the salad kits and I'll get 3 servings out of each of them.
  • Top bowl: Snack-y vegetables. Go-tos are edamame and baby carrots, but sometimes I'll cut up peppers or other vegetables to go in.
  • In the bag: I'll frequently add a bag of chips, fun sized candy, or sometimes extra sauces (ranch packets and the like).
The only downside, as another reviewer mentioned, is that due to the number of containers it takes a while to prep everything every morning. Typically it takes me about 20 minutes to prep everything, although it is 20 minutes regardless of if I'm making one lunch or multiples. It also holds quite a bit of food. My first couple attempts I over estimated how much people would want, and had way too much in the container. Typical lunches (as I outlined above) tend to be ~700-900 calories, and run about $8/2 lunches, since a lot of things are split between both boxes I have.

Well thought through design realized with decent build quality. The provided spork was surprisingly solid and weighty with good balance in the hand. Everything fits neatly into the drawstring bag provided, which has an external pocket and can be either slung or hand carried. My only dissatisfaction would come from the size of the internal containers- it feels like a hassle to whip up several dishes, only to spoon a sample-sized portion into each of the tiny containers that'll barely satiate my appetite- not to mention the ton of washing up it'll require after.

I discovered bento boxes years ago in the early 90s and this is my second one. I appreciate the one stop aspect of them that allows me to bring healthy food to work easily without making a mess. This is a well executed design. I hope everyone appreciate the simplicity of this design.
