For anyone wondering yes this model is made in China but that isn't a bad thing when it comes to trusted brands like Zojirushi, the whole Made in China stereotype is nothing like it used to be.
I personally don't have one but my brother does and has used it for years cooking rice almost daily, great product.
sockpuppyWell I found the quality better for other products, eg, I always buy Bosch that is made in Germany (not German inspired), Tatung made in Taiwan, etc ... read the forums, even repair people gor the above brands say the country of origin makes a difference.
it-manYeah it would definitely be better quality but for me in Australia it's expensive enough finding a Zojirushi Rice Cooker in 230v that is made in China($406 Aud) let alone a Made in Japan ($560 Aud).
Maybe in the future I'll will get a Japan made Zojirushi but at the moment I don't even cook enough rice to justify buying it, that being said I'm considering it for my brothers wedding gift considering how much he cooks :)
it-manTatung makes really great inexpensive cookers, but they are long grain Chinese style cookers, not short grain Japanese style cookers. The Japanese "type" cookers are very different in that they make short grain, high protein rice without browning it on the bottom. I have found that the country of origin is less important than the cooker type. The cooker I have had for the last 35 years is a Chinese fluffy rice type cooker and it's great, but it doesn't do Japanese style rice well at all. I got a Zojirushi 2 years ago and it is a whole different thing. I like my Zojirushi just fine but if I had to buy another I think I'd go to Tiger. They are actually even more expensive than Zojirushi, but they seem to be a little "heavier" build.
sockpuppyGee, I assumed YOU were the millennial based on the way you pulled the race card when no one was even hinting at anything resembling racism.
Oh, and race and ethnicity are not the same thing.
Don't listen to the racists.
Oh, and race and ethnicity are not the same thing.
Oh, and that was an interesting non sequitur you threw in there.
