For those interested, I found the most recent sale page for the KeyKollectiv cat paw keycaps in question: https://www.keykollectiv.com/sales//meowcaps-v3-sale

For some minimal direct comparison, here are the white-paw, pink-pad versions of both keycaps. KeyKollectiv: https://i.imgur.com/z9Eo0y3.jpg
Hopefully, this helps any potential buyers decide whether or not they're comfortable buying the Zomo keycaps. I don't intend to express support or rejection of either side; only to add something which has helped me form my own opinions (along with reading through the discussions here).

platypus.kingThe originals are DARLING, but is there *anywhere* in the world that one can be purchased?

platypus.kingThose kitty keypads from KK are ADORABLE. I'm not seeing any possible way to PURCHASE even one. Am I missing something on their website? Am drooling now... cute, cute, cute, cute. Well, you get the idea.

brenda52411 Wall of text incoming: There unfortunately isn't a good way to purchase the original at this point. Most of these makers do this for fun as a side job. When they make a batch, they have a raffle. A raffle works by putting all the names of people who want one together and selecting them at random. If you're chosen, then you get to pay for it and get one. To get an original, you'd have to wait for another raffle and hope you're chosen in the raffle. Remember these artisans do this for fun and passion and can only make like 50 keycaps while there's 1000+ people that want them. You could get them secondhand on /r/MechMarket or Ebay, but be prepared to pay a pretty sharp upcharge for it (if you can find them at all) or be asked for trades only. Supply and demand etc. That's why we end up with copycats. You could end up paying a lot of money for the original, or someone comes and makes one close enough. No one should fault you for buying this one given the circumstances. KK are some of the nicest and most compassionate artisans in the community, which is why you're seeing so many people defending them like this. I suggest reading this blog post by the people who made the original about the whole process and the inherent flaws with the raffle sale vs. the other methods of selling them: https://www.keykollectiv.com/blog//fairness-and-fallacies

beard_tanThank you so very much. The original ones are ADORABLE. But, as you said, they just can't make enough to allow the whole world (or probably what seems like it, to them) to buy one.
What are these adorable little things even MADE of?
I'm going to buy one that is "close enough".... it's cute... not quite ADORABLE, but cute.. I'll keep my eyes open for an original (now that I know they were made). If I happen to fall into finding one for sale, I will think I'm the luckiest person in the world, but I'm not going to spend a horrible amount of money for the privilege to purchase it... (but sure would be nice if I could find one that needs rehoming.) I could give it a really loving home. My cat would LOVE it.

UGH -- I just went to order one, and the sale is CLOSED!! ARGH!!! If anyone ordered an extra one, and would like to rehome it, I would *LOVE* to buy it from you... sigh.

brenda52411They're cast resin. They put a lot of time into sanding and polishing them to get them to look perfect! Good luck on your search if you ever set out to find one! And snuggle your cat for me, he's a cutie!
