Works well, but only on pc
I was hoping that this would pair well with my iPhone X or my iPad (usb-c), but unfortunately, it didn't work for either. I should probably give it less stars, but since it's found a use as a mobile DAC for my work computer, I'm not going to be too stingy. Oh, and of interest, the volume is integrated to the unit and to change the volume I had to adjust on the unit itself rather than through my computer.
Update: I went out and purchased the Apple OTG cable to finally get it working on my iPhone. It makes it sound better, but to my untrained ear, it's not as good as the ES100, so if I were to give it a review just on sound--4 stars. But, the fact that it says it supports iOS devices, but doesn't provide a lightning cable for it, and the fact that the supplied usb-c cable didn't work with my iPad Pro keeps it at 3 stars as it's a review for the entire product as-is. I'd still recommend this product to somebody looking for a mobile DAC, though--it kept me alive on a week-long business trip in Utah.
No, you probably shouldn't give it less stars. What you should have done is purchase the proper OTG cable for your device (so this DAC is allowed to work the way it is intended), then give it the rating it deserves.
I mean I did and I should update my review, but that's not going to change the rating.
Your star rating shouldn't be affected by the fact that you weren't knowledgeable enough, or willing to do the research, to allow the product to work properly.
