Seriously?!? Almost $300 for a refurbished 24" monitor? Even for a 144Hz monitor, Massdrop's gotta be kidding.
If it's refurbished, it already failed once.

UnixRoninThis is not true at all. These are not defective, "failed," or otherwise damaged products. These are units that were used at one of our sponsored MLG gaming events/tournaments, a customer returned the unit within 30 days due to buyers remorse, or got the wrong monitor for their needs.

ShaneJShane, OK, that's a bit of a different case then. I've had some very bad experiences with "refurbished" items in the past. (For example, I ended up just throwing out a "refurbished" DeWalt belt sander that absolutely would not track straight, and it was only after I tried to get it fixed under warranty that the vendor pointed out the 'refurbished' buried in the small print behind two hidden links and said "Warranty? What warranty?")
It sounds as though this is a case where "refurbished" perhaps isn't the best word, but I'm not sure there's a better one. What you're describing sounds more like "new, opened-box". I bought my current TV, a 60" Samsung, that way — it was a last-year's-model display unit at a big-box store, and I paid less than half retail and have never regretted it.

UnixRoninThat is essentially what these are. In a way, our refurbished are better than new because they go through a rigorous quality inspection process to make sure we are not reselling something that got damaged on the way back to the warehouse or have any dead pixels, etc. A new unit is not tested, so can arrive dead on arrival. Along with the discounted price, our refurbs come with a 1 year warranty. Let me know if you have additional questions or concerns.

ShaneJThis is great new. May I know what the warranty is? What is covered?

RichardRahleverything but physical damage. Even if it is just 1 dead pixel, if you can see a defect, we will cover it. We will cover all shipping costs as well. :)

RichardRahlOnce the drop ends and Massdrop sends me their PO, I will place the order and they will ship either the same day or the next business day. From there, 3-5 business days to be received.

ShaneJ"In a way, our refurbished are better than new ... A new unit is not tested..."
No...a refurb monitor will never be "better than new" because it's definitively not "new". Additionally, you're telling us that your QC standards for shipping "new monitors" is worse than "refurb monitors"? Is that the statement BenQ is willing to stand behind? Based on that alone, I will not be buying any BenQ products.
No one else is seeing this!?!?

ssl5bA refurb will never be "better than new". Correct. A piece of equipment can only be just so new.
However, a 'refurb' (or new-open-box) item like this may be more thoroughly TESTED to make sure it's good. Very few companies can afford to exhaustively test every new item that comes off the production line. It would be prohibitive. Standard quality-control procedures call for testing a random sampling of product off the line. But what Shane is saying is that BenQ tests every reconditioned monitor before it goes out the door. Every single one. Just to be sure.
So the reconditioned monitor cannot be any better than a new unopened unit with no defects. You can't get any better than perfect working order. But by the sound of it, you may be justified in having higher confidence that the one you get has nothing wrong with it.

UnixRoninThanks for your reply. Makes sense.
Overall, just seems very disingenuous to try and market refurbs as better than new. Not a fan of that for fellow consumers.

ssl5bYou misunderstand what I am saying. In the sense that a new could arrive dead is what I am referring to. Of course a new is better with a 3 year warranty instead of 1. That is why I wrote "In a way." Have a good day.

ShaneJNot interested in arguments here, but I won't be purchasing anything from benQ based on this experience and massdrop's display of retail price and claiming such a good deal vs their refurbished price.

ssl5bYou may have misunderstood the post, a refurbished product goes through more testing to ensure that the unit they're sending out isn't broken/damaged. Meanwhile a new unit is something that is coming 'new' from factory then shipped to you without the same thoroughness of testing. It's the same way you make sure the electronic you're selling used on eBay isn't broken/not working so when your buyer receives the item they don't send it back/request a refund which can leave you potentially eating a shipping cost and paying a fee etc
