This is seriously disappointing. Only 7% off? This is not what Massdrop is about, this is a MinusculeDrop at best. The duplex is a good product but it's sad to see such poor discounts on Massdrop. I decided to get Dan Durston's XMid tent instead, which is also currently on Massdrop. Similar or superior quality to the duplex - only slightly heavier at 791.7 gr -, but is only 199$ total (including stakes!!!) for something that is ultralight, durable and well designed. Sorry Duplex, I'll pass. Edit: indeed the XMid is a 1P, but the 2P will be available next year. I should have specified it.

AngeTardivelYou neglect to mention that the x-mid is a one person tent, while the duplex holds 2. Both are great tents though.

AngeTardivelAlso Dyneema isn't exactly a low cost fabric. Coupled with a larger footprint that will fit taller individuals that's is not a valid comparison until the 2p comes out. And unless things have changed they are produced in the United States.

mcbobgorgeWe all agree it is a good tent. The frustration is that Massdrop is not making it even worth the look and making themselves as a go to source for products - less and less viable.

MotorradSorry my comment was not clear. No one is entitled to owning a zpacks product or getting a huge discount on it. This tent is a good product, this is not the issue. My frustration is with massdrop. The point of massdrop is to encourage group purchasing power to offer good deals to both producers and customers. This sort of deal goes against what massdrop and its customers stand for. Hope this makes more sense.

AngeTardivelah yes, you're the White Knight of Massdrop. this kind of thing happens so rarely that it's just such a non argument. it is kind of funny when I hear someone going on about "the point of massdrop" etc. as if they actually have some stake in the business. so maybe this doesn't affect you, but some people are getting this tent for a $70 cheaper than they normally would, for me in California it's going to cost about 15 bucks more, that's life. and I don't see why you're so freaking disappointed anyway, you bought your x-mid which was a screaming deal. and there will be tons more screaming deals. stop being silly just cuz you can't have this cool tent for a really cheap price.

MotorradLike I said, I am very happy about getting the XMid, it's a great tent and exactly what I need, you are completely missing the point. The reason I am talking about "the point of massdrop" is obviously not as a stake holder but as a customer who enjoys the existence of platforms like massdrop, which makes niche activities more affordable and which gives power back to the customer. Based on the other comments I can only assume I was not the only one hoping for a better deal. I was hoping to alert people of a good deal for those of us like me who were looking at the duplex and still wanted something high quality but who cannot afford more expensive tents. I am not sure what is so wrong with this? Currently it is cheaper to get a Duplex directly from Zpacks than from Massdrop. I appreciate that there is a wide variety of products available for the UL community, ranging from more moderate prices to higher end products. I understand that ZPacks makes their products in the US, they are a good company, and I am glad you are happy with this discount, it's awesome that they are offering deals! This is not the issue. The issue is that massdrop is supposed to be about mass savings in a way that is both beneficial to the customers and the producers. This is not such a deal, so I think it is pretty legitimate to ask why it appears on Massdrop. There is nothing "white knighting" about that. As customers we can provide feedback to Massdrop, held them accountable, this is what the comment section is for. To comment on deals. Massdrop can accept our feedback or not, that's on them. That being said, I sincerely hope you are right and this does not mark the beginning of a new trend for Massdrops. In any case, I hope you have merry holidays and have lots of fun later this year going on adventures with your new tent, I look forward receiving mine :)

MotorradWhy are you always so confrontational? It is possible to respectfully disagree without coming across as pompous and sarcastic. Why not take a more constructive and friendly approach instead of name calling just because you disagree?

planb10113Why are you always so overly sensitive? You can not defeat my sarcasm ...and pompous...well... ok...that may have not been "friendly" (like you...so friendly), but it was constructive.

AngeTardivelI assure you, I am NOT missing the point. I'm not dissing your XMid; I got one too. I would pick one of these up, but I got a Triplex a couple years ago...and it's great, but ouch. I've seen enough 'drops' here that didn't add up. So what? Any alert consumer is perfectly able with two mouse clicks to figure it out for their self. So MD was not able to negotiate a super deal for everyone, but -like I said(and you effectively restated)- some people were able to save about $70. You just gotta figure that a manufacturer like this has a pretty small margin compared to larger manufacturers with vast overseas contracts. You just gotta manage your expectations...and entitlement. It's pointless to fly off the handle every time a 'drop' does not meet expectations. Some people just loose their shit every time MD gets beat by Amazon, and it's pointless. It's a complex business model when you're trying to set up 'drops' months in advance and then get beat out by what Amazon can do in two hours of negotiation. If there is a 'new trend' at MD it's that their actual collaborations are better and more common. Ok...so maybe I'm 'white knighting' for MD. ha. I'm just going to appreciate MD for the good that they are doing - until they get acquired by Amazon...then I'll bitch and moan and eventually give in...and so it goes. humbug.
