$500 setup help

more_vert
I’m looking to upgrade my headset situation as my Astro a40’s no longer cut it for me, plus the mic sucks. I’ve been researching a bit and have come up with the schiit magni and modi along with the hifiman sundara or possibly the he400se. I’d like to stay around $500 usd with the he400se being an option to stay near $300. I would be using the set up for gaming and music, I have a modmic on the way. Buy any advice/help is greatly appreciated.

What type of gaming do you like to do? And what's your platform of choice? Regardless, I'd propose this is a starting point: https://www.adorama.com/fofelegia.html?emailprice=t Elegia is great for immersive gaming and decent for PVP. If you're a competititve MP junkie, Beyerdynamics might be better (1990s are awesome, but hard to find within your budget, and need an amp). They're also super easy to drive--I use mine directly out of an Xbox controller for gaming, if that tells you anything.

Out of what I have heard, I would go with hd6xx and that set up. Although a really good upgrade for you would be no dac or amp, but instead buying the hd560s with modmic. From my years in the hobby I have learned that a good effecient headphone is usually a better investment than a budget dac/amp with an inefficient headphone. If you want to max out budget you could get the elex, or a nice iem (drop × jvc ha fdx1) & a desktop mic instead. Hope this helps.
