Im glad I didn't pick up the focal elear because it would have the same color contrast as the focal elegia. I love the black stealthy look to my focal elex. Both focals will pop in my collection. =) very different in sound sig, color, drivers and closed/opened . The pics looks like plastic cups. lol I cant wait to see this in person.

ludachrisAre they really? I for real thought they were plastic. If that's the case, color me excited as they def look plastic-y.

ludachrisThey look and feel plastic to me. I really can't see where the aluminum is in the picture of the interior of the cup, which also is complicated enough that I can't imagine it being made of anything other than injection-molded plastic. I'm fairly certain that whoever was saying it's aluminum and CF at RMAF was mistaken.

shimagehttps://forum.headphone.com/t/focal-elegia-new-closed-back-headphones-from-focal/2131/9 this guy spoke to focal and focal told him the cups are made of aluminum amd some carbon fiber inside. Hope this answers ur question.

Really enjoying them so far. In short, I can wholeheartedly say they are basically a closed back Elex. They could be considered "bass light" as some are saying but to my ears, the bass is maybe a couple of dB higher than the Elex. So, it's polite, but present and never overbearing. They really just lack that deep sub-bass impact. Otherwise, the same excellent bass you would expect from Focal. With my Fiio A5 and their bass boost, the drivers have the ability to really rumble and vibrate your face. So far, they seem to be able to take quite a bit of EQ in the lows and unlike typical Focal drivers, no clipping/over-excursion even with heavy sub bass and lots of EQ. I'll need to test here more but I was pleasantly surprised how hard they can hit with just a little EQ and not mess up the rest of the FR.
I'll have more impressions as I get more ear time and properly A/B between them and my other sets.

jaydunndidditI'll get mine tomorrow and am truly excited. Are the earcups actual metal or plastic?

rdodevThey feel metal. It's weird as they're some sort of matte so the face of the cups doesn't match the outer cup ring despite them looking to be one solid piece. There's also this mesh/grille like material inside the Focal logo so I wonder if these are fully closed or semi-closed:

ludachrisThat's no bueno. The bass boost is one of the main reasons I stick with the basic Fiio amps as I like their implementation of it. I have an old E11 and an A5 and the A5 on high gain with bass boost is pretty perfect with the Elegia. Mind you, this is with my portable rig as the EQ software on my phone just sucks (crappy stock Android EQ).

jaydunndidditHow's sound isolation? One of the reasons I resisted buying any of the 'Ele' line was because I simply can't use open cans (either can hear my kids or wake my kids up late at night).

rdodevGood as long as long as music is playing at a reasonable volume (I personally listen at what most consider loud). They're not the best but I would consider them above average. I normally listen around 80-85 dB and when music is playing, I hear nothing but the music. And I mean that literally. If you listen at lower volumes, isolation is still quite good but if people around are VERY loud, YMMV. This is just from me.being at home or in the office. Haven't tried them on a bus, or a plane yet. They also don't leak much at all unless you listen as loud as I do and someone is standing right next to you (per the wife).

jaydunndidditlol my wife said she still hears my music on i'm just 10 feet away from her. I really like the headphones it has smoother bass control and vocals are not as close compared to my elex. I want th elegia to break in more because my elex sounds perfect broken in after 100hrs+ . I would consder these headphones semi closed, not digging the cord color but I love the case it came with. My wife told me to return it, getting a hard time to keep or to return for store credit.

jaydunndidditI wouldn't use them for commuting or in planes. That sort of environmental noise is best dealt with active NC. But keeping normal noise out and music in is what I'm looking for.

jaydunndidditI finally got my fiio a5 to work, the short angle aux went dead. Difinately hear the difference between the elex and elegia. Elegia is for sure a keeper, worth every penny.

ludachrisI'm with you, the color and how cool they look is much more important than how the sound, especially for expensive headphones!
