SKX007 discontinued, new model?

Since the SKX007 is such a mainstay here, thought it'd be relevant to share. One wonders how many new SKX are in the wild, well I guess they're NOS now right?

The original turtle was discontinued and reborn, it's all cyclical. There will always be a Seiko named Turtle. The older models increase in price as vintage, the newer ones appeal to a younger generation I'm guessing. No crown guard is a big swing and a miss though. I own an original 6309-7049, plus a slim-case 6309-7290, and just gave a nephew an SKX007 for xmas. He never liked mine, but loves his. Go figure.

SKX death letters have been floating around for a bit, but that's not to say it isn't true. I think there was some kind of official press from Seiko when they cut off the SARB series earlier this year.
My favorite part of this article was drooling over the three watches side by side. This article has the best photos I've seen of the 'mini turtle' yet and it was fun to see them on matching straps. Admittedly, I don't actually like the looks of the mini turtle and I hope it isn't a straight replacement for the entry level Seiko diver, but I do appreciate it's details - the applied markers and the bezel grip especially.

Will1977I didn't love the Pogues when it was introduced. (I'm that old.) The yellow dial was screaming for attention. I got over it and have a silver and a blue dialed models and those watches on the wrist are awesome. I'm a bracelet guy, and don't love the look of the Pogue case on a nato or leather.

Interesting article. However, it appears that the alleged discontinuation of the SKX isn't an uncommon occurrence. You must wonder whether publications bring it up just as a sort of "clickbait" for their articles without any concrete evidence (the W&W article doesn't present any). Still, it isn't out of the question, and the mini-turtle does bear somewhat of a resemblance.
