Looking for a closed back bass heavy headphone
more_vert
I currently use Philips fidelio X2’s plugged straight into my motherboard But I dont think they have enough of an inmersive feel that I’m after. I like bass heavy songs and I love just feeling like I’m in the music which unless I Turn my music up really loud and cup my hands over the outer ear pads I don’t really get it. I’ve got a budget of about 800/1000 AUD so around 600/650USD. i’m looking to get whatever is best, whether that’s just a pair of headphones and then plugged into the mobo or if I should be getting a dac/amp combo or if I should be getting a sound card etc . I’m looking to get a setup to listen to music to mainly although I ido do a lot of competitive gaming I want music to be the main priority in my decision.

cheers

If you are looking for immersion a solid surround sound does more than any headphone ever will guaranteed. Seeing as your setup calls for a hefty overhaul of improvement. I dabbled with speakers soundcard setup or a audio video reciever could do as well. If you prefer a quiet setup with headphones.. that will take little more thought about what immersion you want, whether it is music or gaming.

Fostex TR-X00 Purple heart would be a good fit in your budget with good impactful bass. They're also easy to drive too. I have the Ebonies and really enjoy them for movies and gaming as well as music. They're really good all rounders.

Yeah Turtl, DenonFanboy's suggestion is good. However, I'm not familiar with gaming and surround sound, so I'm not sure how will a regular dac and amp affect it. Make sure it's compatible. If bass is still lacking, you might want to try Vmoda's M100 headphones

I think u should get a schiit magni 3 amp and a modi 3 dac. Those will supercharge your fidelio x2, then see if it isn’t enough, Sound cards just aren’t near the Performance of a good amp and dac.

breh, have you considered IEMs? for that kinda money you can get soul shaking low end without giving up too much of anything else.

I'd almost suggest the Mass Drop Universal IEMs... they're $300 but there are a LOT of complaints about cord quality. I'm waiting on a pair of BGVP DMGs to ship to me but you can probably do better than those with your $600 price range.
Maybe @mrsallee could help with an IEM suggestion?
