@Drop The configurator is giving out bad files (at least for windows). Creating a new configuration, saving, then downloading the .bin file works fine. Running .\mdloader_windows.exe --first --download .\FILE_NAME --restart completes without any errors, and then the keyboard fails to restart. Unplugging and plugging back in, the keyboard either shows only the faint red LED on the skirt, or just does the constant "USB device unplugged" sound. I had to find default .bin file for ALT keyboard elsewhere just to get it working again, as NO file from the configurator here would successfully reboot the keyboard.

indcyoI just generated my first *.bin from the online configurator and it worked fine on Windows. I didn't change much, just created a new layer so the left Alt key behaves more like Fn so I can press F1-F5 without requiring my right hand, and also so left Alt+L/R arrow keys map to Home and End (this has been a godsend coming from a decade of macOS!). Could you elaborate more what issues you were seeing? It's also worth noting that the instructions on this page are a bit dated, seeing as you don't need an additional keyboard to flash the firmware anymore. It was really quite simple!

indcyoDid you hold down FN+B for three seconds after hitting enter?

indcyoI am having the same problem and 2 days of trying to search for the answer has given me nothing. I cant even use the default .bin file from the configurator. This post is already a couple months old, so I hope someone out there has fixed this.

Deltahawk726If you're getting the error message a program not being associated with whatever when you got to save your settings, the file is still saving in your downloads folder. It is easier to rename them to something short afterwards and move all three folders to your desktop file. Make sure that you have all three files in the same locations, and that the your MDloader file is 1.04 or newer. The easiest way I have found to do it outside QMK toolbox is like this:
  1. all the above. Move correct files into one folder.
  2. In files, click on files, hover over powershied, choose run as administrator. It is just easier to get to the correct files this way vs. explaining how to do it in powershield. Sometimes not running as an administrator is an issue on some people's machines for some reason, or so I have read.
  3. type without [brackets] or cut and paste this, just insert your .bin files correct name.
  4. [ . \mdloader_windows.exe --first -- download .\yourfilename.bin --restart] (you can type some of the file name like so, .\yourfilen and hit enter or up and it'll fill the rest in as long as you only have .bin file with that name. Otherwise, triple check that's the right one. There is also an issue with the files wanting to try to be written as .bin.bin so make sure to remove the second .bin if this happens.
  5. Hit Enter. You'll get a message saying you have 60 second to reset. Hold FN+B for 3-5 seconds and release. Upon release your keyboard will power off and back on. If it doesn't power back on after 60 seconds, unplug and replug. It should be fine. Mine has been so far at least the time that happened.
If you have an older low profile alt or ctrl, if may require a 2nd keyboard. You'll hit enter on the second and use safety pin to reset the board on the bottom. You should be good to go. Hope this helps.

hdsharpe1Unfortunately, this did not work for me. I double check, triple check everything is spelled correctly, and still the board does not turn back on and just flashes the orange led. I even just downloaded a fresh default .bin file from the configurator, renamed and flashed that one, and still doesn't work. Only when I use the .bin file found on QMK firmware does the board come back on. As far as I can tell, I receive no error message and it seems like everything is in order, just that the keyboard doesn't turn back on. Deltahawk726Mine does that. It doesn't restart every time after flashing. But when I unplug and plug back up it has taken the new configuration. I am no QMK or daughterboard expert though. Try exchanging it if you're in your 30 day window.
