Opinions on high end rescue knife?

more_vert
I have started looking into a high end rescue knife (integral belt cutter, serrations and glass breaker) as a staple in my edc messenger bag. The options out there aren’t fantastic and I was wondering if anyone had any input? My current front runner is the Fox Folgore because the Spyderco Rescue III lacks integral belt cutter.

Benchmade Triage is definitely the best option for the use case you mentioned. Several blade steels to choose from with a very nice and easily accessible 440c belt/strap cutter and glass breaker on the end.

What about the Benchmade Triage Axis Lock (model numbers 915, 916, 917) ? They come plain and/or serrated, belt cutter, glass breaker, Bohler N680 steel, etc. I wouldn’t call them high end at a little over $100, but they have what you mentioned above.

DougFLA123Look at their newer tac triage. Better blade steel unless you need super rust resistance, and a drop point rather than a sheep’s foot

Take a look at the DPx Hest Milspec. It doesn't have a dedicated "belt cutter" however it excells in every regard. IMHO belt cutters are more gimmick than anything. For cutting nylon webbing a sharp knife with serrations works very well. I have been a fireman for 30+ years and have used quite a few tools, in practice and training. Our belt cutters are top quality however they get most use collecting dust.

FourdayThank you for the insight! My issued Benchmade strap cutter has never seen the light of day either. I will look into that model.

DrewzillaAmendment: DPx HEST/F Milspec. The folder, not the fixed blade. Sorry for the confusion.

While I understand it isn't a standard EDC, the Leatherman Raptor meets all your criteria, except for the knife. Working in the 911 system, I can only give rave reviews for them. I have used every tool on the Raptor, and while they have worn down with strenuous usage, they have been a solid workhorse for me! Just something to consider.
